I’ve run across this on a couple of pages and find it just too damn good not to poach & share. It’s a little known image of four of the Lincoln conspirators. In fact, the first time I saw it, I spit Diet Coke all over everything within range. share. I think it’s brilliant, and an excellent satire of those people who colorize historic images electronically and share it as a serious art. And if Julia Louis-Dreyfus wants to get close enough to me to use a Derringer, she’s more than welcome too.

North Carolina's Clay Culture likely started in the east. Recent shell midden finds are dating pottery to 2800 BCE. Shell midden is simply where these first people discarded their oyster shells...and most everything else. Pot shards are prolific and it isn't unusual to find human skeletal remains in a midden pile. The Eastern Woodland NC shell-temper pottery attached in the first image here is contemporary and made by my hand, with heavy doses of profanity, dry bovine dung frisbees and Experimental Archaeology.

Three early Archaic Neuse River/Mill Creek chert and Hornstone celts. Clearly showing a peened and polished surface the Hornstone celt (L) displays little to no use while the barely recognizable full grooved chert example (R) has so much wear it may have been easier to discarded rather than being reshaped or repurposed. The center piece is a classic Neuse River green Chert full goove. The polished celt to the left is 7.36 inches in length. All are ca.9000 bce.
