🌿 Ivan Kupala Night is one of Ukraine’s oldest summer traditions.

Celebrated on the night of 23-24 June, it combines ancient rituals connected to water, fire, and nature. For centuries, people gathered by rivers to weave wreaths, dance around the Kupala tree, sing, swim, and jump over bonfires.

Many of the rituals are linked to the ideas of purification and renewal. Fire symbolises strength and protection, while water is associated with cleansing and well-being. Together, they form the heart of the celebration.

Ivan Kupala Night is a vibrant part of Ukraine’s cultural heritage, blending folklore, music, and centuries-old traditions.

On June 23, a Russian missile struck civilian infrastructure in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro region, killing three civilians and injuring more than 20 others. Three of the wounded are in critical condition.

Russia continues its terror against ordinary people. Every delay in strengthening Ukraine’s air defence capabilities comes at a human cost.

The world must not remain silent about the fact that Russia continues to reject any meaningful path to peace. Ukraine has repeatedly proposed practical steps towards ending the war, yet has received no clear response from Moscow. That is why stronger pressure on Russia is needed now.

Ambassador of Ukraine to Denmark Andrii Yanevskyi addressed DI Construction, the organisation representing Denmark’s construction industry. He highlighted opportunities for Danish companies to engage in Ukraine’s reconstruction and emphasized the importance of building a stronger and more resilient future together.

In his remarks, the Ambassador emphasized that Ukraine is already rebuilding today and encouraged Danish companies to join the effort. Guided by the “Build Back Better» principle, Ukraine seeks not only to restore what has been destroyed by Russia, but to create safer, more sustainable, and more efficient communities, drawing on Danish expertise in construction, urban planning, energy efficiency, and resilient infrastructure.

A powerful symbol accompanied the event. Behind the stage, the Ukrainian flags were flying over Copenhagen’s City Hall Square — a visible reminder of Denmark’s steadfast support for Ukraine.

Russia launched its full-scale invasion believing Ukraine would be defeated in days. Instead, Ukraine has held the line and grown stronger – while Russia has paid an enormous price in manpower, equipment, and international isolation.

The toll of Russia’s war is proof that its aggression does not come without consequences.

Russia’s overnight attack on Kyiv struck one of the greatest holy sites of Christianity and a UNESCO World Heritage site – the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

A fire covering approximately 800 square meters broke out on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral after the attack. Emergency crews continue to work at the site.

The damage occurred during a massive Russian assault on Kyiv that killed at least four people and injured dozens more. The strike also caused a fire at a building of the Mystetskyi Arsenal National Cultural, Arts and Museum Complex, where flames spread across about 1,000 square meters.

Targeting the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is an unforgivable attack on Ukraine’s cultural and spiritual heritage and on a site of outstanding value to humanity. We expect a strong response from the international community.

💬 «We will be urgently initiating all relevant procedures within UNESCO and all other international mechanisms, demanding immediate and adequate responses to this state barbarism.

We expect strong reactions by international institutions and capitals. No vague words, silence, or weak steps. We need action now to stop Russian barbarism,» Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha has stressed.

In May 2026, Ukraine continued its efforts to return unlawfully deported and forcibly transferred children, while strengthening international coordination, legal accountability, and global advocacy.

This month, 63 children were returned, bringing the total number of returned children to 2,126.

Key developments in May 2026:

🔹 Ukraine, Canada, and the European Union will co-host a high-level meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children on 11 May in Brussels. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described the deportation of children as one of the gravest crimes of Russia’s war.

🔹 At Civil Society and Expert Day in Kyiv, Deputy Speaker Olena Kondratiuk highlighted gaps in global sanctions coordination, noting that only 5% of sanctioned individuals appear across all jurisdictions.

🔹 Canada’s Ambassador to Ukraine Nataliia Cmoc stressed that civil society work — tracing, case management, and reintegration — is essential to making international commitments effective.

🔹 The European Union reaffirmed support for accountability through the International Criminal Court, Eurojust, and the establishment of a Special Tribunal.

🔹 41 Ukrainian organisations called on Coalition members to adopt a clear roadmap, strengthen sanctions, and enforce ICC arrest warrants against Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova.

🔹 A large-scale installation of 20,000 teddy bears in Washington, D.C. symbolised each abducted Ukrainian child, amplifying global awareness.

🔹 First Lady Olena Zelenska reported that Russia is offering imprisoned Ukrainian teenagers sentence cancellations in exchange for military service.

Ukraine has documented at least 20,570 cases of deportation or forced transfer of children. The real number is likely much higher.

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian children remain under Russian control.

There can be no just and lasting peace without the return of Ukrainian children.

Join us for breakfast with the designers and makers behind Form in Making: Ukrainian presentation at 3daysofdesign 2026. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with Українська Асоціація Меблевиків, the Embassy of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Denmark, curators Anait Danielian and Larysa Tsybina, supported by SIPPO.

For the third year running, Ukraine House in Denmark is part of Copenhagen's biggest design festival, and this year the exhibition brings together seventeen Ukrainian brands working across furniture, objects, interiors, and functional art.

Over breakfast, you will have an opportunity to meet the people behind the brands and hear how their objects are made, learning about the materials that give contemporary Ukrainian design its character.

The food will be freshly prepared on the spot by Motanka, Copenhagen's first Ukrainian food spot. We will taste syrnyky, Ukrainian traditional cottage cheese pancakes, and varenyky with cherries, a summer classic loved across Ukraine, along with coffee and bubbles.

Come by for a slow morning and a chance to spend some time with the people shaping contemporary Ukrainian design today.
