It is with joy that we look back on the Netherlands Embassy’s King’s Day Reception at the Lillepaviljon in Tallinn last Tuesday.

Thank you to all the 250 guests that took part in celebrating King Willem-Alexander’s birthday. We appreciate that many of you included something orange 🧡 in your outfits.

Music was this year’s main theme, with wonderful performances by Kamerkoor Next from Utrecht, the recently created local Pop-up Choir and the Combo of the Fanfare Korps Nationale Reserve from the Netherlands.

In his speech Ambassador Sander van der Sluis explained why orange is the national color of the Netherlands and also shared personal memories of the Queen’s Day celebration in his home village of Vaassen in 1983. He also highlighted the close relationship between the Royal Family and the Dutch Armed Forces at a time when strengthening defence capabilities is high on the agenda.

We thank Peter Boeijkens from FleurRoyal for arranging the beautiful Dutch flower decorations, Erwin Wassenaar from Juustukuningad for providing the Dutch cheese and bitterballen, Piet Boerefijn from the Tallinn Foodbank to whom we donated food that was left over, and last but not least our Embassy team for organising the event.

Beste Nederlanders in Estland,

Hierbij deel ik, met instemming van zijn echtgenote Irma, met jullie het droevige nieuws dat de voormalig Nederlands ambassadeur in Estland, Maurits Jochems, op 2 april jl. is overleden.
Maurits was een zeer gewaardeerde collega met een ruime staat van dienst bij het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken en de NAVO.
Van 2010 tot 2012 was hij de Nederlandse ambassadeur in Estland. Zijn verblijf in Tallinn werd korter dan gepland, omdat hij in de zomer van 2012 door de SG NAVO werd benoemd tot de hoogste civiele gezant van de NAVO in Afghanistan.
Hij vervulde ook functies in Rome, Bonn, Beiroet, Kingston en Brussel, en was Directeur Veiligheidsbeleid op het departement.
Ik heb Maurits leren kennen als een heel betrokken, bevlogen en vriendelijke collega.
Ik wens zijn echtgenote Irma en de andere nabestaanden veel sterkte toe.

De Koningsdagviering staat gepland voor 28 april. We hebben gehoord dat sommige Nederlanders problemen hebben ervaren bij de registratie in de informatieservice en daardoor geen uitnodiging hebben ontvangen.

Mocht u deze problemen ervaren, stuur dan graag zo snel mogelijk, het liefst vandaag, een e-mail in het Engels naar [email protected] met uitleg van uw situatie. Dan proberen we met u mee te denken en het probleem op te lossen.
