🎒 Just two days after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Lidia and her mother crossed the Polish border in search of safety. Today, at the Polish Red Cross in Kielce, she is the one helping others rebuild their lives from scratch.
As the Livelihoods program coordinator, Lidia supports the Ukrainian community in Poland. Drawing from her own experience of escaping war, she guides people to find jobs, open businesses, and regain their independence. 💼✨
💬 “I grew alongside the project – first as the coordinator's assistant, and today as its coordinator. Together with the Polish Red Cross team, we've helped many people who had the courage to start over” says Lidia.
Lidia’s story proves that true safety means more than just finding shelter. It means regaining the power to shape one’s future and to thrive as professionals and neighbours in a shared community 🇵🇱🤝🇺🇦
When Russia attacked Ukraine, 1.73 million Ukrainian refugees received legal and financial protection in Poland. Every life restarted is proof that we are strongest when we stand together. ❤️

🌿🍓☀️ A Taste of Polish Summer: Allotment Gardens, Home Growing and Barbecues

When the weather turns warm, many Poles head to their beloved allotment gardens (działki) to relax, garden, and spend quality time with family and friends away from the bustle of the city.

A unique feature of Poland’s landscape are the Family Allotment Gardens, where generations of gardeners cultivate their own vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers. These small green havens are not only places for growing food but also spaces for recreation, community, and a closer connection to nature.

And no Polish summer would be complete without another national favorite: grilling! Whether in an allotment garden, a backyard, or by a lake, gathering around the barbecue is a cherished tradition that brings people together to enjoy good food and great company.

From home-grown tomatoes and strawberries to weekend barbecues with family and friends, these traditions reflect a lifestyle that values nature, sustainability, and community.

The deepest wounds of war are often the ones we cannot see.
Nina Mocior, a Polish psychotherapist working with Caritas Polska , supports children and adults in four Family Support Centers across Ukraine. Because for a child to heal, a parent needs support too.
In a war zone, mental health care is not a luxury. It is survival – helping people regain a sense of safety, rebuild their lives, and move forward.
Poland and Ukraine. Building resilience together.

As summer draws to a close, harvest season begins across the Polish countryside. For generations, this has been a time of hard work, gratitude, and celebration.

One of Poland’s most cherished rural traditions is Dożynki, the Harvest Festival. Held after the completion of the harvest, Dożynki is a joyful occasion that brings local communities together to give thanks for the crops gathered throughout the year. The celebrations often feature beautifully decorated harvest wreaths, traditional folk music, regional costumes, and shared feasts that highlight the rich cultural heritage of rural Poland.

Harvest and Dożynki traditions remind us of the deep connection between people, nature, and the agricultural cycle that has shaped village life for centuries.

🌾 To learn more about the history of this beautiful tradition, read the article by The National Institute of Culture and Rural Heritage:

Harvest Festival as a harvest festival has been known since ancient times. Practically from the moment people learned to farm. The ancient ceremonies also had (and still have) a metaphysical dimension - the intention was to thank the gods for their protection and prosperity and ask for similar favor...

Are oil sanctions on Russia actually working?

Since Russia launched its full-scale aggression against Ukraine, Kremlin budget revenues from oil and gas taxation have reached approximately $530 billion (42.9 trillion roubles). Does this mean energy sanctions have failed?

📊 What does hard data tell us?
• Reduced dependency: The share of hydrocarbon revenues in Russia’s budget dropped from 42% in 2022 to around 20–23% at the turn of 2025/2026. Sanctions have clearly restricted revenues and raised operational costs for exports.
• Kremlin’s adaptation: Russia managed to maintain revenues at a level sufficient to continue funding its war machine through the mass use of the shadow fleet and continuous changes in flags and transport routes.

The current price cap formula established by the G7+ coalition is reaching its limits. Without tightening the system, Russia's operational costs will cease to rise.

“We wanted to be free and to owe that freedom to ourselves”
These words, spoken by Jan Stanisław Jankowski on 1 September 1944, reflect the spirit of the Warsaw Uprising, which began on 1 August 1944.
On the 82nd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, we honour its brave women and men, as well as the people of Warsaw who supported them.
We remember.
