Estonian summers come with a few surprises that most expats never see coming. 🇪🇪☀️

One minute you’re enjoying midnight sunlight by the lake, the next you’re watching locals sunbathe in 19°C weather and voluntarily swim in water that still feels like winter.
And somehow, it still all makes sense. 😄

What surprised you the most about summer in Estonia? 👀

You know summer is arriving in Tallinn when the road works begin. 🚧😄

Living in Estonia means enjoying all four seasons — including a proper snowy winter. And while winter is beautiful, it’s not exactly ideal for fixing roads. So as soon as the weather warms up, construction season officially begins!

This summer, expect bigger road works around:
👉 Paldiski maantee
👉 Peterburi tee
👉 Rävala puiestee
👉 Several intersections and smaller streets across Tallinn

🚗 Planning a road trip to Pärnu? Take your time — the Tallinn–Pärnu highway is also undergoing bigger construction works this summer.

How are you surviving Tallinn’s “fifth season”? 👀

🇪🇪👋🏽 Already in Estonia and have questions about visas, residence permits, or your legal stay here? Don't let the confusion take over, we're here to help!

One of the biggest first steps for many international students and expats is getting or extending a residence permit. 🪪

At International House of Estonia, migration advisers from the Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) offer free consultations for internationals already living here. They’ll help explain what you need, what to do next, and how the whole process works in actual human language.

🐾 Hey all pet owners out there!

Spring in Estonia means longer walks, blooming parks, and more time outdoors with your furry companions.

To keep shared spaces safe and comfortable for everyone, remember a few simple habits:
🐕 Keep your pet on a leash in public areas
😷 Use a muzzle for dogs if the situation requires it
💩 Always clean up after your pet

These small actions show respect for other people, other animals, and the city we all share. Thank you for helping make Estonia a pet-friendly place for everyone! 🌿🐶

🌿 Enjoy Estonia’s nature — just stay aware!

While exploring forests and meadows, you might come across some of nature’s tiny or shy residents. Ticks are most active from spring to autumn and can carry diseases, so it’s smart to wear long sleeves, use repellent, and check your skin — and especially your pets — after spending time outdoors. Pets can easily carry ticks home with them.

You might also occasionally spot one of Estonia’s three reptiles: the Common European adder (the only venomous snake), the harmless Grass snake, or the Slow worm, which is actually a legless lizard. These animals are shy and prefer to avoid people.

Stay observant, respect wildlife, and enjoy the beautiful outdoors safely! 💚

Spring has arrived in Estonia! 🌷

The days are getting longer, the sun is warmer, and nature is slowly waking up. If you’re wondering how to make the most of spring here, try some of our favourite activities:

🌿 Bog hike – Nature is coming back to life after winter, and Estonia’s bogs are one of the best places to see it. Take a peaceful walk on a bog boardwalk and enjoy the fresh spring air.
☕ Relax on an outdoor café terrace with friends – As soon as the weather allows, cafés open their terraces. Grab a coffee, soak up the sunshine, and enjoy the relaxed spring vibe.
🚲 Bike ride – Spring is perfect for cycling. Ride through city parks, along the seaside, or explore quiet countryside roads.

Spring in Estonia may come slowly, but when it arrives, let’s make the most of it! 🌞
