Foreign Minister Discusses Regional Developments and De-Escalation with his Bahraini Counterpart over the Phone

A phone call was held on Saturday, September 5, between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, and Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as part of the ongoing consultations between the two sisterly countries.

The conversation reviewed Egypt-Bahrain distinguished bilateral relations, as well as the rapidly evolving regional developments and their implications for the security and stability of the region.

Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt's full solidarity with the Kingdom of Bahrain in facing any threats to its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He further asserted that the security of Bahrain and the Arab Gulf states constitutes an integral part of Egyptian national security.

In this context, the Foreign Minister emphasized the necessity of halting the current escalation and refraining from any moves that could expand the scope of the confrontation, in addition to endeavoring towards creating conditions conducive for returning to political and diplomatic tracks.

The two ministers reaffirmed the importance of maintaining close coordination and consultation in the coming period, and intensifying efforts aimed at containing tensions and curbing escalation, thereby contributing to the preservation of the region's security and stability and sparing its peoples the repercussions of a wider conflict.

أعرب الوزير عبد العاطي عن تضامن مصر الكامل مع مملكة البحرين في مواجهة أية تهديدات تمس أمنها وسيادتها وسلامة أراضيها، مؤكداً أن أمن البحرين ودول الخليج العربي يمثل جزءاً لا يتجزأ من الأمن القومي المصري. وشدد على ضرورة وقف التصعيد الراهن وتجنب أية خطوات من شأنها توسيع نطاق المواجهة، والعمل على تهيئة الظروف المواتية للعودة إلى المسارات السياسية والدبلوماسية.

Foreign Minister Discusses Regional Developments and De-escalation Efforts with his Omani Counterpart

A phone call was held on Saturday, September 5, between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, and Mr. Badr Albusaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman.

The call discussed the latest regional developments, as well as de-escalation efforts aimed at containing ongoing tensions, in addition to exchanging assessments regarding means to restore calm and stability to the region.

Minister Abdelatty emphasized the priority of halting the escalation and refraining from any moves that could fuel tensions and jeopardize the security and stability of the region. He further underscored the necessity of diplomatic efforts as the optimum path to addressing the root causes of the crisis.

In this context, the Foreign Minister reiterated the importance of resuming U.S.-Iran negotiations, in accordance with the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, and building upon it as a framework for addressing outstanding issues through dialogue and negotiation.

The conversation also tackled developments in the Strait of Hormuz and their implications for regional security and the global economy. Both ministers reaffirmed the necessity of maintaining the security and safety of maritime navigation, and ensuring the smooth flow of trade and energy supplies.

شدد الوزير عبد العاطي على أولوية وقف التصعيد والابتعاد عن أية خطوات من شأنها تأجيج التوتر وتهديد أمن واستقرار المنطقة، مؤكداً ضرورة إفساح المجال أمام الجهود الدبلوماسية باعتبارها المسار الأمثل لمعالجة مسببات الأزمة. وفي هذا السياق، أكد أهمية العودة الي المفاوضات بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران، وفقا لمذكرة تفاهم إسلام آباد والبناء عليها كإطار يتيح معالجة القضايا العالقة عبر الحوار والتفاوض.

Foreign Minister Discusses Egypt-US Strategic Relations, and Developments in Sudan and Libya, with U.S. President’s Senior Adviser for Arab and African Affairs

A phone call was held today, Saturday, September 5, between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, and Mr. Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs.

The call was part of the ongoing consultations between Egypt and the United States. The two sides discussed the strategic bilateral relations between the two countries, the latest developments in the Sudan crisis and the situation in Libya, as well as ways to achieve security and stability in the two countries.

During the call, both sides explored means to advance the strategic ties between Egypt and the United States, boost cooperation and coordination across various fields, and build upon the momentum in bilateral relations to serve mutual interests.

They also emphasized their pride in the longstanding partnership between the two countries and their commitment to continuing to develop it across various areas, particularly in the economic, trade and investment fields, in a manner that reflects the special nature of the relations between the two countries and serves the aspirations of the Egyptian and American peoples.

Regarding the Sudanese crisis, the two sides reviewed ongoing efforts and communications aimed at halting the escalation and addressing the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation.

Minister Abdelatty underscored the necessity of building on current efforts to end the conflict and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need. He reiterated the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, safeguarding its national institutions, and rejecting foreign interference that could prolong the crisis or complicate its resolution paths.

The Minister also noted that ending the Sudanese crisis requires, in parallel, launching an inclusive, Sudanese-owned and Sudanese-led political process that preserves state institutions and responds to the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

Concerning the situation in Libya, the two sides discussed ways to create the necessary conditions for achieving progress in Libya’s political process and to end the state of division.
Minister Abdelatty pointed out that Egypt’s actions stem from the priority of preserving Libya's unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the unity of its national institutions, while ensuring that the political process remains exclusively Libyan-led.

He noted that holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously represents a fundamental step toward restoring stability. He further reiterated the importance of integrating regional and international efforts in support of the political process, in a manner that helps Libyans reach a sustainable settlement reflecting their will and preserving the unity of the state and its institutions.

Foreign Minister and his Malian Counterpart Discuss Bilateral Relations and Developments in the Sahel

A phone call was held on Saturday, September 5, between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, and Mr. Abdoulaye Diop, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Mali.

The two Ministers discussed means to advance bilateral relations between both countries, in addition to the latest developments in the Sahel region.

During the call, Minister Abdelatty commended the close ties binding the two countries, and asserted commitment to elevating these relations towards broader horizons. He also reviewed counterterrorism efforts in the Sahel region, and reaffirmed Egypt's full support for efforts aimed at combating terrorism in the West Africa and the Sahel regions.

The Foreign Minister further underscored the necessity of adopting a comprehensive approach that combines the security and development facets in order to confront this scourge, thereby contributing to establishing security and stability in the Sahel region and the African continent.

The two ministers further exchanged views on means to bring stability, security, peace and development to the African continent. In this context, the two sides agreed to boost coordination in both the bilateral and multilateral frameworks, and to build upon the existing political and developmental momentum in a manner that serves mutual interests and supports stability and development in Africa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Continues to Develop Its Institutional Structure to Keep Pace with Regional and International Challenges and Enhance the Efficiency of the Diplomatic Apparatus

As part of the ongoing development and restructuring of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, and given the importance of keeping pace with rapid regional and international developments, as well as the growing and interconnected challenges facing Egyptian diplomacy, the Ministry has established a number of new sectors and departments to enhance its ability to address emerging political and technical files more effectively. This will contribute to developing the tools of diplomatic work and implementing Egyptian foreign policy priorities and national interests.

The restructuring process is based on key principles, most notably efficiency, empowering youth and women, and leveraging the accumulated expertise of the Ministry’s leadership.

Accordingly, a dedicated Migration Sector has been established to comprehensively address the various dimensions of the migration file, including regular labor mobility and seasonal migration, return and reintegration, and combating migration-related crimes, alongside strengthening cooperation with relevant countries and international organizations. This approach maximizes the benefits of opportunities offered by regular migration pathways and labor mobility, while also seeking burden-sharing with developed nations and international organizations in light of the significant strain Egypt bears from hosting millions of refugees on its territory.

The restructuring process has also included the establishment of a sector dedicated to combating international terrorism, corruption, and transnational crime, in light of the interconnected nature of these challenges and their growing impact on security and stability. This sector aims to enhance the Ministry’s capacity to coordinate Egypt’s efforts in relevant regional and international forums and support bilateral and multilateral cooperation to confront these dangerous phenomena.

Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was keen to keep pace with rapid technological shifts by creating a new Department for Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies. This department is tasked with tracking international developments in these fields, exploring available opportunities, and enhancing Egypt’s presence in international discussions and frameworks concerning the governance of AI and modern technologies, as well as exploring ways to utilize these tools to advance Egyptian diplomatic work.

Furthermore, this restructuring runs parallel with ongoing efforts to integrate the International Cooperation sector into the Ministry's operational framework. This step reinforces the concept of economic and developmental diplomacy and achieves greater alignment between foreign policy tools and state economic and developmental priorities. It draws upon the accumulated expertise of personnel in the international cooperation sector, maximizing the benefits of developmental grants, funding, soft loans, and programs provided by development partners to direct them more effectively toward national priorities, while also strengthening the role of Egyptian diplomatic missions abroad in supporting efforts to attract investment and promote economic opportunities.

As part of the restructuring process, increasing priority is being given to developing the training and capacity-building system for diplomatic and administrative personnel as well as researchers. This is being achieved through specialized training programs that keep pace with rapid developments in diplomatic, economic, and technological spheres, contributing to refining skills and enhancing professional capabilities. This ensures the preparation of qualified personnel capable of efficiently handling the diverse and complex files managed by the Ministry and meeting the evolving demands of diplomatic work.

In this context, the Ministry pays special attention to empowering young cadres and women, opening avenues for talented individuals to assume positions of responsibility. Middle-ranking male and female diplomats have been assigned to lead several newly established sectors and departments, as well as existing ones. This strategy leverages the diverse energy and expertise within the Ministry, injecting fresh blood into leadership and decision-making roles, all while continuing to benefit from the accumulated wisdom of senior diplomatic leaders. Selections are strictly based on efficiency, proven track record, and the capacity to take responsibility, operating within an institutional framework that supports professional expertise and enhances the Ministry’s ability to meet diplomatic demands and navigate the evolving challenges facing Egyptian foreign policy.

Egyptian and Italian Foreign Ministers Participate in Egyptian-Italian Business Forum

Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, and Mr. Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, participated on Thursday, September 3, in the Egyptian-Italian Business Forum in Cairo. The event saw wide participation from representatives of the business communities, companies, and economic and investment institutions of both countries, coinciding with the convening of the Egyptian-Italian Joint Higher Committee.

Minister Abdelatty pointed out that the convening of the Forum reflects the growing momentum witnessed in Egyptian-Italian relations, noting that Italy is Egypt’s largest trading partner among the European Union countries and its fourth-largest trading partner globally.

Minister Abdelatty looked forward to increasing Italian investments and leveraging Egypt’s strategic location, promising market, and status as a logistical hub and a gateway to Arab and African markets.

Minister Abdelatty also underscored the importance of fostering cooperation in the fields of energy and renewable energy, industrial localization, infrastructure, transport and logistics, as well as technology and digital transformation. First Session of the Egyptian-Italian Joint Higher Committee Held in Cairo, Co-Chaired by the Foreign Ministers of the Two Countries

The first session of the Joint Committee between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Italian Republic was held today, Thursday, September 3, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The session was co-chaired by Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, and Mr. Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy.

The event was attended by Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy; Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity; Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade; and Mr. Hassan Raddad, Minister of Labor.
Attendees also included representatives from the Ministries of Transport, Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Health and Population, Education and Technical Education, and Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The Italian side was represented by the Minister of Environment and Energy Security and the Minister of Labor and Social Policies, in addition to a number of senior officials from both sides.

Minister Abdelatty pointed out that the convening of the Committee reflects the growing momentum witnessed in Egyptian-Italian relations and the support and attention they receive from H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and H.E. Ms. Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy. He expressed aspiration to build on this momentum in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries.

Minister Abdelatty also commended the steady growth in the volume of trade between the two countries, highlighting keenness to increase Italian investments and leverage Egypt’s position as a logistic and trade hub and a gateway to African markets.

For his part, Mr. Antonio Tajani underscored the importance of continuing to strengthen the Egyptian-Italian partnership, noting the growing interest of Italian companies in the Egyptian market and their interest in capitalizing on the promising opportunities it offers. Minister Tajani emphasized that the distinguished political relations between the two countries provide a strong foundation for expanding economic cooperation. He also stressed the importance of boosting partnerships across various fields to achieve mutual interests of both countries and supports their shared role in the Mediterranean region.

Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, underscored the importance of reactivating the Egyptian-Italian Business Council and enhancing direct communication between the business communities of the two countries, in a manner that contributes to translating investment and trade opportunities into tangible projects. He also highlighted the importance of advancing trade cooperation and increasing exports, exchanging expertise between the relevant entities, and exploring new opportunities for cooperation between Egyptian and Italian investment funds.

The meeting also tackled ways to expand cooperation and open new horizons for cooperation and investment.
In the field of electricity and energy, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, stressed the importance of continuing work on the Egypt-Italy electricity interconnection project and enhancing cooperation in the fields of energy and green transition, in light of the opportunities the project offers to strengthen connectivity between Egypt and Europe and support cooperation within the Mediterranean region.

Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, also emphasized the need to promote Egyptian-Italian cooperation in the fields of social protection and care, and economic empowerment, as well as exchanging expertise and experiences in the field of social development, in a manner that supports the two countries’ efforts to achieve sustainable development and enhance areas of cooperation with a humanitarian and social dimension.

With regard to labor and labor mobility, Mr. Hassan Raddad, Minister of Labor, stated that the discussions reflect the depth of the partnership between both countries, noting convergence to complete the final drafting of the Memorandum of Understanding on regulating and facilitating the entry and employment of Egyptian workers in Italy, alongside enhancing vocational, linguistic, and cultural training tailored to the needs of the Italian labor market.

Minister Abdelatty also made a point of addressing the Nile River issue, reaffirming that it is an existential issue and a matter of national security, and that no infringement on Egypt's water security can be permitted under any circumstances.

The Protocol of the Joint Committee, signed by the two ministers, included Italy’s affirmation of its support for the principles of international law, particularly with regard to the principle of no harm, encouraging cooperation among the Nile Basin countries in a manner consistent with the rules of international law, and refraining from any unilateral actions.

At the regional level, the meeting witnessed an in-depth exchange of views and assessments regarding a number of regional and international issues and crises of mutual concern. Foremost among these were developments regarding the Palestinian cause, as well as updates on the Iranian crisis and the situations in Libya, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa.
Both sides reaffirmed the significance of maintaining coordination and consultation on these files, given that restoring stability in neighboring countries directly impacts Egyptian national security.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Continues Efforts to Secure the Release of Egyptian Sailors Detained off Somali Coast

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates continues its intensive efforts and communications to secure the prompt release of the Egyptian sailors detained aboard a vessel off the Somali coast, ensure their safety, and provide them with appropriate living conditions until the crisis is resolved and they return safely to Egypt.

Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, is directly monitoring developments in the situation. The Minister gave directives of intensive action across all tracks, sparing no effort to guarantee the safety of Egyptian citizens and speed up their release.

Intensive communications are currently underway with the relevant Somali and Yemeni authorities to follow up on developments in the situation push for the swift release of the crew, assess their conditions, and supply their basic needs and appropriate living conditions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also continues its regular communication with the sailors’ families to keep them updated on the situation and ongoing efforts until their release.

Phone Call between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his Ugandan Counterpart to Discuss Ways to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, held a phone call today, Tuesday, September 1, with Mr. Adonia Ayebare, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate positions on issues of common interest.

Minister Abdelatty extended his congratulations to his Ugandan counterpart on assuming his new post, expressing his aspiration for continued coordination and consultation to bolster political and economic cooperation in light of the historical relations between the two countries.

He emphasized the importance of building upon the outcomes of the recent visit by the President of the Republic to Kampala in May 2026 to push cooperation towards broader horizons, particularly in the fields of infrastructure, energy, dam construction, mining, agriculture, water resources management, and pharmaceutical industries. He also extended an invitation to the Ugandan business community and companies to participate in the El Alamein Africa Business Forum, scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit from October 2 to 4, 2026, in El Alamein.

The two ministers also exchanged views on ways to promote peace, security, and development across the African continent, particularly in the Nile Basin, the Horn of Africa, and the Great Lakes region. Both sides concurred on the need to step up coordination within bilateral and multilateral frameworks to serve shared interests and support stability and development in Africa.

Minister Abdelatty reiterated the importance of cooperation and integration in the River Nile to achieve mutual benefits and shared interests in accordance with international law, adhering to the spirit of consensus and fraternity among brotherly countries to restore inclusiveness and reject unilateral actions. The Foreign Minister further invited his Ugandan counterpart to attend the sixth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, scheduled for the coming November.

قدم الوزير عبد العاطي التهنئة لنظيره الأوغندي على توليه مهام منصبه، معرباً عن التطلع لمواصلة التنسيق والتشاور لتعزيز التعاون السياسي والاقتصادي في ظل العلاقات التاريخية بين البلدين، والبناء على نتائج الزيارة الأخيرة للسيد رئيس الجمهورية إلى كمبالا في مايو ٢٠٢٦، لدفع التعاون لآفاق ارحب لاسيما في قطاعات البنية التحتية والطاقة وانشاء السدود والتعدين والزراعة وإدارة الموارد المائية والصناعات الدوائية، موجهاً الدعوة لمجتمع الأعمال والشركات الأوغندية للمشاركة في منتدى العلمين أفريقيا للأعمال المقرر عقده على هامش قمة منتصف العام التنسيقية للاتحاد الأفريقي خلال الفترة ٢- ٤ أكتوبر ٢٠٢٦ في مدينة العلمين.

كما تبادل الوزيران الرؤى حول سبل تعزيز السلم والأمن والتنمية بالقارة الأفريقية، لاسيما في حوض نهر النيل والقرن الأفريقي والبحيرات العظمي، واتفق الجانبان على تعزيز التنسيق في الإطار الثنائي ومتعدد الأطراف، بما يخدم المصالح المشتركة ويسهم في دعم الاستقرار والتنمية في القارة الأفريقية، وأكد الوزير عبد العاطي أهمية التعاون والتكامل في نهر النيل لتحقيق المنفعة المشتركة والمصالح المتبادلة وفقا للقانون الدولي، والتمسك بروح التوافق والأخوة بين دولنا الشقيقة لاستعادة الشمولية ورفض الإجراءات الأحادية. ووجه وزير الخارجية الدعوة لنظيره الأوغندي للمشاركة في النسخة السادسة لمنتدى أسوان للسلام والتنمية المستدامين المقرر عقدها في نوفمبر القادم.
