Today’s Doodle celebrates the 115th birthday of Hamed Gahar, a renowned Egyptian scientist, marine biologist and TV host. He is considered the founding father of oceanography in Egypt and the Arab world, and hosted an educational show called “Sea World” for 18 years.

Gohar was born on this day in 1907 in Cairo, Egypt. He was a gifted student from an early age and studied medicine at Cairo University in 1925. However, he decided to pursue biology and received his master’s degree in oceanography from Cambridge University in 1931. Gohar then began researching xenia, or soft coral, along the coast of the Red Sea.

Gohar discovered that dugong, a sea mammal that was thought to be extinct in the region, still existed in the Red Sea. He continued studying underwater life for 25 years at the Hurghada marine biological station, and it’s rumored that he never ate fish due to his love for sea creatures.

Gohar made several contributions to Egyptian and Arabic marine biology. He worked with the Arabic Language Academy to create scientific dictionaries in Arabic. He also served as an adviser to the United Nations’ Secretary General and helped organize the first International Conference on Law of the Sea in Geneva.

An entire generation of Arabs know Gohar from his popular TV show, “Sea World”, which he hosted for more than 18 years. By highlighting underwater scenery and natural sea life, Gohar gifted Arabs with inspiring knowledge about marine biology, and is remembered today for his distinct voice and unending love for the ocean.

This case is really incredible.(amazing video)
الترجمة للغة العربية في نهاية البوست

5 days ago, a male spinner dolphin was found alone in a lagoon in Marsa Alam area- Red Sea with high activity and no abnormal symptoms.

monitoring of this dolphin showed that every time he leaves this lagoon, he returned again to the same point.

After 5 days, a very funny event happened (see the video), members of his pod came near the Lagoon, they called him with a lot of whistles, then one of them entered the Lagoon and took the dolphin out to join the pod again.

Really incredible!!!! I believe that these animals are smarter than we imagine.

في حدث فريد و طريف حدث في منطقة مرسى علم.
تم تسجيل وجود دولفين بمفرده في احد اللاجونات بالمنطقة ( من غير الطبيعي تواجد الدلافين بمفردها بدون السرب أو العائلة).
ظل في منطقة اللاجون لمدة 5 أيام و عندما يقوم بالخروج من اللاجون يعود بسرعة مرة اخرى لنفس النقطة و لم تظهر عليه أي علامات مرضيه او غير طبيعية.
بعد مرور 5 أيام أتت عائلته و دخل أحد افرادها ( يبدو انه الأب من ضخامة جسده) و قام بتوجيه الدولفين للخروج و استجاب الدولفين على الفور و خرجوا من اللاجون سويا و اثناء سيرهم ظل يمسك به و كأنه يؤنبه على فعلته.
ثم انضموا الاثنان لباقي افراد العائلة في سلام و ساروا جميعا سويا في طريقهم لمكانهم الطبيعي خارج اللاجون.

Hi everybody, i have great news.
Our little lady Tayeba is in her home again.
Thanks for everyone participated in this successful process.
We wish her peace and safety in her home.

After 14 days of medication and rehabilitation, the Dolphin Tayeba returned successfully to her normal habitat after following all the international guidelines for cetacean medications, rehabilitation, and release.

بعد ١٤ يوم من العزل العلاجي- الدولفين طيبه تعود لبيئتها الطبيعية بنجاح و هو الحدث البيئي الفريد و الأول من نوعه في مصر الذي تم بإشراف و متابعة من المعهد القومي لعلوم البحار والمصايد و جهاز محميات البحر الأحمر و بمشاركة من جمعية حماية البيئة ( هيبكا) و دولفين وورلد مكادي
تم إتباع كل البروتوكولات العالمية في العلاج و إعادة التأهيل و الرجوع.

TAYEBA our survivor dolphin is doing well in her 2nd day in Dolphin World Egypt - Makadi Bay. She has got regular feeding and medication with intensive care 24 hrs/day.
We would like to introduce our deep appreciation to the staff of Dolphin world specially the veterinarian Dr Dmitrii Liventsov , and to the head of dolphin training unit Mr. Fevzi Ismailov for their great efforts and for their collaboration with the teamwork of NIOF to do the proper management, and the specific medical plan.

Let's continue our praying for TAYEBA till getting full recovery.

To whom it may be interested,
After 12 hours of continuous work today inside and outside the Red Sea water, our dolphin (TAYEBA, her new name) admitted safely to a special treatment unit in Dolphin WORLD Makadi resort under shared supervision from different authorities and NIOF, and with intensive treatment plan.
Thanks to everyone shared us this special conversation.
Our prayers will be continued for TAYEBA till being totally cured.

بعد محاولات استمرت لأكثر من 12 ساعة متواصلة خلال اليوم من الرعاية داخل و خارج مياه البحر الأحمر تم نقل الدولفين ( طيبة) إلى وحدة العلاج المجهزة و الخاصة بالدلافين بقرية دولفين وورلد مكادي.. و تتلقى الآن العلاج المكثف تحت رعاية الأطباء و المختصين بقرية الدولفين و المعهد القومي لعلوم البحار والمصايد و تحت إشراف من جهاز محميات البحر الأحمر و المعهد القومي لعلوم البحار والمصايد
نتمنى الشفاء العاجل ل ( طيبة)

Today's emergency case
At National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries and محميات البحر الأحمر Red Sea Protected Areas , We were called to rescue a dolphin settled in uncommon habitat at the shore of the area north of Hurghada.
He was suffering from abnormal symptoms.
Prophylactic treatment and medical care were applied.
the situation is still under investigation and observation.

- Visiting Dr. Hamed Gohar's hall, learning about his stuff & secrets of his scientific trips, and seeing the rarest machines and tools for sea voyages.

- Visiting the Museum to see the mummified fish and marine creatures such as sharks, whales, sea birds, ...etc.

- Visiting the aquarium and watch live fish, turtles and snakes.

Visiting Instructions:
1- It is forbidden to enter without a medical mask.
2- Maintaining safe distances and precautionary measures.
3- Food and drinks are allowed, but to be eaten outside the halls with maintaining the cleanliness of the place, and not throwing garbage except in the designated places.
