BARCELONA, 25 May 2026 — Barcelona was the node of “service with malasakit” for Overseas Filipinos as the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona, together with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Madrid, rolled out a series of outreach activities for the Filipino community over the weekend of 23 to 24 May 2026.
The three Philippine government institutions joined forces to bring government services, medical assistance, and skills training closer to the Filipino community in Barcelona, in what was described as “a collaborative effort to make government support more accessible to Filipinos abroad,” according to Consul General Maria Theresa Sta. Maria Lazaro.
Around 40 Overseas Filipinos participated in the Spanish Cooking Training featuring Paella and Fideuà Workshop in Barcelona on 23 May 2026. Conducted in partnership with Chef Capbrabo Taller de Cuina, the training aimed to provide participants with practical culinary skills while promoting cultural appreciation and community interaction.
The following day, the Consulate premises served as a one-stop service venue where Filipinos processed OWWA membership applications, secure Overseas Employment Certificates (OECs), and avail themselves of contract verification services.
A free medical mission was also conducted during the outreach, with Filipino doctors and nurses volunteering their services to provide consultations, including gynecologic examinations and obstetric services for women.
The weekend activities reflect the continuing commitment of the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona, MWO, and OWWA Madrid to support the welfare, skills development, health, and well-being of Overseas Filipinos in Spain.
