The apartments and the garden
The 1500m2 wildlife garden is unique on Lanzarote, not least because of its many mature trees and great variety of local species of bushes and flowers – which of course attract a large number of fauna as well: frogs, lizards, hedgehogs as well as many different birds. It is an integral part of the living space and has been designed to provide guests with a variety of
areas, ranging from covered and uncovered living areas suitable for lounging or eating al fresco, to secluded spots nestled in between the bushes and trees. Careful planning of paths, hedges and walls means that you will have plenty of privacy outdoors, even with a full house. The Garden apartment forms part of a recent construction on the barranco side of the old house. It is a studio apartment with a large, romantic sleeping space, a comfortable living/dining area and a small but well-equipped kitchen. The view from indoors, of the garden treetops and the mountains in the background, is even better from the private patio in front of the apartment. It has a private as well as a shared entrance. Lanzarote natives have a saying ‘the wind is like a little sister that takes you by the hand and follows you everywhere.’ A breeze is often refreshing and welcome but at other times, though great for windsurfers, it can be a nuisance for those who wanted to relax in the sun and find themselves being sandblasted instead. Our guests however can always avoid this problem by taking advantage of the carefully-sited walls and trees in our garden which have created several private wind-free areas for them to enjoy. The house is divided into three separate parts, two of these are self-contained apartments that have access to all parts of the garden. We have created the apartments as spaces we would like to stay in ourselves – which means that, although they may not be to everyone’s taste, they are comfortable, pleasant and well-equipped for any length of stay. Apartment facilities include free WIFI internet and satellite TV and radio, washing machine and environmentally friendly built-in storage heaters for those cool January nights. Extra heating is available for unusually cold weather – we want our guests to be comfortable! Communal facilities include a sauna and, at certain times of the year, a whirlpool bath. The apartments are 40 euros a night plus 50 for cleaning.
