Our food bank needs help.
This food bank is also under pressure to cover the coast since Caritas closed.
Please read, please share ❤️
🚨💔 **ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED — YEARS OF HARD WORK, CRUELTY AND NOW HUNDREDS OF EUROS OF FOOD LOST! 💔🚨**
**A HELPING HAND FOOD & CLOTHES BANK NEEDS YOUR HELP MORE THAN EVER!** 🙏❤️
This is going to be a long post, but please, please take a few minutes to read it. I'm absolutely heartbroken, furious and exhausted by what has happened.
As many of our longtime followers will remember, we have had **years of problems with our neighbours**.
Originally, it was the husband, wife and daughter. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to keep the peace, the situation became unbearable.
Over the years, we have endured behaviour that no charity, volunteer or family should ever have to put up with.
💔 Our charity posters being deliberately pulled down.
💔 Volunteers, myself and even our families being verbally insulted.
💔 Donors and struggling families being shouted at.
💔 Horrific racist comments directed towards South American families.
💔 Constant arguments over a ramp that was built around 30 years ago, which we are told we cannot use.
And something I will never forget...
**One Christmas, we gave them a Christmas hamper as a gesture of goodwill.** Despite everything, we wanted to be kind and make peace. Instead, the w**e bottles were smashed and the chocolates stamped on outside our home.
That's how our kindness was received.
Things eventually became so bad that we had to spend money installing security cameras. The Guardia Civil became involved, and the matter eventually went to court.
Following the court case, things calmed down considerably. There were still occasional incidents involving families and donors, but nothing like before.
The husband later became unwell, and the family returned to Bilbao for some time.
**For approximately TWO YEARS, WE HAD PEACE.**
Sadly, the husband has since passed away. The family have now returned, this time with another daughter, and unfortunately the problems have started again.
# # # 🚨 WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK 🚨
The other day, a car was parked slightly across part of the ramp. There was still room to pass, but instead of simply asking politely for the vehicle to be moved, all three women became extremely aggressive.
There was excessive beeping, shouting, kicking bags and verbal abuse directed towards our donors.
Then the insults started towards me.
And yes, I'll be the first to admit that I answered back. I'm human, and after years of this behaviour, I was absolutely furious.
But what really upset me was watching a **Colombian mother with her baby being verbally attacked.**
These are people coming to a FOOD BANK. People who may already be struggling financially, emotionally or personally. Some are embarrassed enough having to ask for help.
**THEY DO NOT DESERVE TO BE HUMILIATED OR ABUSED. ESPECIALLY NOT WHILE HOLDING A BABY!**
The Guardia Civil attended again and spoke to those involved.
We thought that would be the end of it.
Unfortunately, it wasn't the end of our problems.
# # # 💔 THEN CAME FRIDAY... 💔
Shortly after we left, our security cameras went offline.
There had been extremely heavy rain, so I assumed it was simply a problem caused by the weather. I thought nothing more of it.
But when we arrived at the food bank on Friday...
**WE HAD NO ELECTRICITY.**
We tried everything we could think of.
Eventually, one of our volunteers' husbands checked the electrical box outside, which is situated on the neighbouring wall near their car.
What he discovered was that **the electricity supplies to BOTH properties had been disconnected.**
Now, I want to make something VERY clear.
**We have absolutely no proof who disconnected them, and I am not publicly accusing anyone.**
But given the history, the timing and everything that happened beforehand, you can understand why we are deeply concerned.
We do not know exactly what happened or who was responsible.
What we DO know is that the electricity had been off long enough for us to lose a heartbreaking amount of food.
# # # 😭 ALL THIS FOOD HAD TO BE THROWN AWAY 😭
**❄️ FROM OUR FREEZERS:**
- Bread
- Chicken jamoncitos
- Minced meat
- Pies
- Various other frozen foods and essentials
**🧀 FROM OUR FRIDGES:**
- Cheese
- Sliced cheese
- Ham
- Hot dogs
- Sliced salami
- Yoghurts
Even though the fridges and freezers remained closed, the electricity had been off for so long that we could no longer safely distribute the affected food.
**ALL OF IT GONE. 💔**
Food that generous people donated.
Food that our volunteers worked so hard to collect, organise and store.
Food that should have been feeding struggling families and children this week.
And now we're faced with the heartbreaking task of replacing it all.
I cannot begin to explain how devastating this is.
We are a small charity run by **UNPAID VOLUNTEERS**. We don't have endless funds. Every single euro matters, every donation matters, and every item that comes through our doors has a purpose.
We already struggle to keep our shelves stocked from one opening day to the next.
And now this.
# # # 🙏 PLEASE, WE ARE BEGGING FOR HELP FOR TUESDAY 🙏
Our shopping list for Tuesday was already incredibly expensive BEFORE losing all this food.
We desperately need to replace everything above, as well as our usual essentials.
**🛒 OUR URGENT SHOPPING LIST:**
🥔 Potatoes
🧅 Onions
🥕 Carrots
🥚 Eggs
🍚 Rice
🍅 Tomato frito
🍞 Bread
🍗 Chicken jamoncitos
🥩 Minced meat
🧀 Cheese and sliced cheese
🍖 Ham and sliced salami
🌭 Hot dogs
🥛 Milk and yoghurts
🍪 Biscuits
🧁 Magdalenas
🥣 Chocolate breakfast cereal
🧴 Fairy liquid / washing-up liquid
🪥 Toothpaste
🧼 Deodorant
👶 Nappies — **SIZE 5**
🍼 Baby formula — **STAGES 2 & 3**
And honestly, so much more.
**We are not asking anyone to spend a fortune.**
If you're doing your weekly shopping and can pop an extra packet of biscuits, a bag of rice, a carton of milk or a pack of cheese into your trolley, you would be making a genuine difference.
If 20 people donated just a few items each, imagine what we could replace.
If you can spare €1, €2 or €5, that helps us buy fresh food and fill the gaps ourselves.
And if you're unable to donate, simply sharing this post would mean the world to us.
# # # 🚗 AN IMPORTANT WARNING TO ALL OUR VISITORS 🚗
**PLEASE DO NOT PARK OVER OR TOO CLOSE TO THE NEIGHBOURS' RAMP.**
Even if you believe there is plenty of room, please leave the ramp completely clear.
We are asking this for YOUR protection, because we do not want anyone else subjected to shouting, intimidation or abuse.
Please don't argue or confront anyone. If there is a problem, come inside and speak to one of our volunteers.
Our families deserve to collect their food in peace, our donors deserve to donate without being intimidated, and our volunteers deserve to work without feeling constantly on edge.

# # # ❤️ AND FINALLY, FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART...
I am exhausted by having to deal with these situations.
We have been helping local families for almost seven years. We have opened our doors to thousands of people, supported children, elderly residents, single parents and families who simply cannot make ends meet.
We don't get paid.
We don't do this for recognition.
We do it because **NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO GO HUNGRY.**
There are days when running this food bank is emotionally and physically exhausting. There are days when the bills pile up, the shelves empty faster than we can fill them, and I genuinely wonder how we are going to manage the next opening day.
But we keep going.
Because behind every bag of food is a family.
Behind every carton of milk is a child.
Behind every donation is somebody's kindness.
And I refuse to let years of conflict or one devastating incident destroy what this incredible community has built together.
**WE CAN REPLACE THE FOOD. WE CANNOT REPLACE THE KINDNESS THAT MAKES THIS CHARITY POSSIBLE. ❤️**
To our wonderful volunteers, donors, supporters and families: THANK YOU for standing beside us through thick and thin.
I hate having to write another begging post, especially when so many of you already give so much.
But right now, we genuinely need you.
**PLEASE HELP US REFILL OUR FRIDGES, RESTOCK OUR FREEZERS AND MAKE SURE THE FAMILIES COMING ON TUESDAY DON'T GO WITHOUT. 🙏💔**
Even ONE item makes a difference.
With all my love and gratitude,
**Nikki ❤️**
