Shaping Tomorrow and Leaving a Legacy for Generations Has Become the Hallmark of the Medemer Government: Government Communication Service

OBN Cyber Media-September 05, 2026

The Medemer Government has continued to establish a national legacy that will transcend generations, demonstrating its commitment through tangible results. Throughout the years of reform, it has wisely and steadfastly transformed every challenge thrown its way—from near and far—into building blocks for national development, turning enduring challenges into opportunities.

The milestones announced by the government at the Guba gathering, which Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed described as demonstrating “Ethiopian resilience and foresight,” are monumental manifestations of the country’s potential being translated into action. With a framework requiring an investment of more than USD 30 billion, these initiatives represent a historic collective achievement that will significantly transform Ethiopia’s future.

For the Medemer Government, ensuring food security is a key measure of prosperity. The commencement of construction of a fertilizer factory is expected to significantly increase the productivity of Ethiopian farmers. At the national level, it will also enable the country to save billions of dollars in foreign currency.

The construction of the new Bishoftu International Airport, which is set to become one of Africa’s largest airports, is also becoming a reality. The project will strengthen Ethiopia’s position as a major logistics, trade, and diplomatic hub on the continent, elevating the country’s geo-economic potential to a new level. A project that many aspire to realize in their own countries has now been launched by Ethiopians with determination—and we will see it through to completion.

The Medemer Government has firmly envisioned technological sovereignty as a critical factor in transforming opportunities for future generations. Technological sovereignty cannot be achieved without energy sovereignty. That is why the government has given strategic priority to securing energy sovereignty, recognizing it as a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s economic independence.

Following the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the first gas plant—another symbol of Ethiopia’s revival—has been inaugurated, while a second one is under construction. The completion and commencement of operations of these and other major power-generation projects underway will reduce dependence on imported energy, strengthen national energy security, and lay a solid foundation for the expansion of the industrial sector.

The true measure of development is the realization of citizens’ dignity and social justice. The government is working with strong emphasis on this objective. Preparatory work has begun for the construction of 1.5 million houses across the country. The project is expected to enable millions of low- and middle-income citizens to become homeowners while transforming the urban landscape and advancing social justice.

Medemer means growing together and sharing prosperity. These major projects will create direct and indirect employment opportunities for millions of young people. In this regard, results are already beginning to emerge from the early stages of implementation.

The legacy that the Medemer Government seeks to pass on to future generations is not debt, but dividends. Initiatives designed with the next generation in mind will continue to be strengthened. Envisioning tomorrow today and shaping it for future generations has become a defining hallmark of the Medemer Government.

By rolling up our sleeves, tightening our belts, and building through our own hard work and sweat, we are creating a legacy of prosperity for generations to come. Through our collective effort and determination, we will build Ethiopia on a strong and enduring foundation..

“Ethiopia’s Capacity in Artificial Intelligence Makes It Globally Competitive” : IGAD

OBN Cyber Media-September 05, 2026

A high-level delegation led by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Mohamed Abdi Ware, conducted a field visit to the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute.

During the visit, the Deputy Executive Secretary stated that Ethiopia’s capacity and progress in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) are positioning the country to become globally competitive.

Mohamed Abdi Ware noted that AI is critically important for achieving inclusive development and sustainable growth. He commended Ethiopia’s remarkable progress in human capital development and infrastructure expansion, saying the country has demonstrated a strong understanding of the strategic importance of the technology.

He particularly highlighted Ethiopia’s achievements in applying AI in key sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, education, and finance. According to him, Ethiopia’s progress in translating AI technology into practical applications is not only strengthening its global competitiveness but also serving as an important example for the African continent.

The main objective of the high-level delegation’s visit was to enable IGAD member states to learn from Ethiopia’s successful experience and establish strong regional partnerships that can facilitate the integration of AI into their respective social and economic systems.

Members of the delegation also expressed their commitment to drawing lessons from Ethiopia’s experience and working together to advance AI development across the region, according to information obtained from the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute.

During the visit, Dr. Taye Girma, Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, provided the delegation with a comprehensive briefing on the Institute’s major research and development activities.

He also reaffirmed Ethiopia’s readiness to share its technological knowledge and experience in AI with all IGAD member states and to work collaboratively through regional partnerships.

The strategic knowledge- and experience-sharing visit is expected to open new opportunities for strengthening digital connectivity across East Africa and enabling IGAD member states to jointly leverage technological capabilities to achieve inclusive and sustainable development.

Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative Playing Key Role in Combating Climate Change : AU

OBN Cyber Media-September 05, 2026

The Green Legacy Initiative is making a significant contribution to mitigating the impacts of climate change and protecting biodiversity, the African Union (AU) Director for Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy, Harrison Nyambe, said.

In an interview with the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), Director Nyambe said the Green Legacy Initiative provides a range of ecological benefits, including cleaner air, while helping reduce carbon emissions and mitigate global warming.

He noted that the initiative is also playing a crucial role in efforts to combat the adverse effects of climate change by restoring degraded land and rehabilitating ecosystems.

Overall, Nyambe described the Green Legacy as a national initiative with multiple and wide-ranging benefits.

The AU director further emphasized the importance of African countries exchanging experiences and best practices in combating climate change. In this regard, he said other African countries could learn from Ethiopia’s experience and adapt its approaches to address their own environmental challenges.

Nyambe also stressed that Ethiopia should play a leading role by sharing its successful experiences with other African countries and contributing to continent-wide efforts to protect the environment and address climate change.
