Canada believes in the power of young people to drive change and build stronger communities.

On International Youth Day, Canada celebrates the leadership, creativity, and potential of young people. Through initiatives such as Uplift Her, implemented by CARE, Canada is supporting youth in Ethiopia to build financial literacy, develop entrepreneurship skills, grow savings, and launch small businesses.

By equipping young women and men with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to succeed, we are helping them make informed decisions about their futures and contribute to more prosperous, resilient, and inclusive communities.

A triple win for women and families, children and girls, and inclusive economic growth.

Today, Canada joined partners in Ethiopia to discuss new evidence on the care economy and the role of childcare in advancing women’s economic empowerment and inclusive growth.

Through the initiative, supported by Global Affairs Canada and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), we are helping generate evidence, strengthen childcare systems, and identify scalable, locally led solutions. The findings reinforce a powerful message: childcare is not only a social investment, but also economic infrastructure. It expands opportunities for women, supports children’s development, helps girls stay in school, and contributes to stronger economies.

Canada is proud to work with Ethiopian partners to advance gender equality, strengthen care systems, and support sustainable solutions that help build stronger families, more resilient communities, and more prosperous economies. 🇨🇦🤝🇪🇹

Women are powerful drivers of economic growth. Today, Canada was proud to support a new partnership between Ethiopia's Ministry of Women and Social Affairs and CARE Ethiopia that will strengthen more than 100 women's organizations across the country. Investing in women means investing in jobs, entrepreneurship, shared prosperity, and a stronger future for both Ethiopia and Canada.
