Behailu Danielโs journey from an Arba Minch parking attendant to a national model entrepreneur is a powerful story of determination.
After losing his mother and supporting his family with small savings, Behailu started with just five chickens. Early on, he showed his entrepreneurial spirit by engineering his own incubators to overcome supply chain gaps and scale his production.
Even after a devastating setback last Easterโlosing 2,000 chickens to predators while his wife was in laborโhe didnโt quit. He used his previous innovations and resilience to rebuild even stronger.
The turning point for his professional growth came through the EDI-led SEED program, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. Through SEED, Behailu received entrepreneurship training (EBMS), business development support, and access to finance.
These interventions empowered him to professionalize his operations and scale significantly. Today, his enterprise has reached a capital of 2.8 million ETB, a growth that includes the creation of 24 jobs for local youth and the procurement of a new 600-square-meter facility for expansion.
Behailuโs excellence was recognized in July 2025 by the Ministry of Labor and Skills, which honored him with a National Model Enterprise Award in the Agriculture Sector.
As he prepares 7,000 chickens for this yearโs holiday, his vision is clear: producing one million chicks to ensure affordable poultry products for the community.
This Easter, we celebrate his spirit of innovation!
