What a remarkable achievement! Yomif has set a new men’s half marathon world record, clocking an incredible 56:51, taking 29 seconds off the previous mark.

As the Sydney Marathon takes place this weekend as one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, we hope to see Yomif take on the Sydney course in the future.

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) delivered Project Zero in Fedis Woreda, significantly improving maternal health awareness, service utilization and access to treatment for childbirth related injuries.

Through the support of Direct Aid Program (DAP), HFE conducted house-to-house survey covering more than 29,000 households, identified more than 2,000 pregnant women, and newly enrolled more than 300 women in antenatal care.

DAP Small Grants Program 2026-27 is now open.

The Australian Embassy, Ethiopia was proud to co-sponsor the World Humanitarian Day event organized by the Humanitarian Coordination Forum.

Humanity depends on humanitarian action.

Last year, 350 aid workers were killed while delivering life-saving assistance to those who need it most.

, alongside the Ministerial Group, is advancing the Declaration for the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel to uphold international law, better protect aid workers and strengthen accountability.

We’re pleased to announce applications for the Australian Embassy’s 2026-27 Direct Aid Program (DAP) are now open for projects in , , , and the .

DAP is a small grants program funded by the Australian Government. It supports local communities to deliver direct, practical, and immediate projects that promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth and development.

The Australian Embassy, Ethiopia invites not-for-profit organisations, including NGOs, community groups, and research institutions, to apply for funding to deliver projects across one or more of the following areas:

- agriculture, food security, conservation, biodiversity, and climate resilience; including initiatives contributing to Ethiopia’s priorities
- health services and education, particularly women’s and girl’s sexual and reproductive health rights
- gender equality, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI)
- governance, peacebuilding (including women, peace, and security), and human rights.

On today’s International Youth Day, Australian Embassy, Ethiopia highlights two young scholars from Ethiopia, Hailegiworges, and Robel, Australia Awards Scholarship recipients for 2026.

Hailegiworges Nigatu, and Robel Asamenow are currently in Australia pursing their studies in Master of Energy Systems and Master of Energy Geoscience, respectively.

Australian Embassy, Ethiopia celebrates these young scholars who are building the skills and knowledge needed to make a real impact.

Congratulations, Dawit!

Congratulations to Australia Awards alumnus Dawit Beza from on receiving a small grant to advance his innovative project, “Applying Australian Prefabricated Construction Technology to Address Housing Challenges for People with Disabilities.”

By adapting Australian expertise and technology to the Ethiopian context, this project has the potential to contribute to more accessible, inclusive, and affordable housing for people with disabilities.

It is inspiring to see Australia Awards alumni turning their knowledge and experience into practical solutions that can make a meaningful difference in their communities.

Australian Embassy, Ethiopia wishes Dawit every success as he takes this important initiative forward!
