State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hadera Abera, received Kirsty McNeill, UK Minister of State for International Development at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, today at his office for a productive exchange on further strengthening the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and the United Kingdom.

Ambassador Hadera reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to its strategic partnership with the United Kingdom and expressed the country’s readiness to further deepen bilateral cooperation in pursuit of mutual benefit, shared prosperity, and sustainable development.

The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in a range of areas, including trade and investment, development cooperation, economic reform, migration, regional peace and security, climate action, and multilateral affairs.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Hadera Abera received the newly appointed Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Ethiopia, Abdalla Hassan Obaid Hassan AlShamsi, at his office today.

During their discussion, Ambassador Hadera underscored Ethiopia’s commitment to further strengthening the longstanding bilateral partnership, particularly through enhanced trade, investment, and people-to-people relations. Noting the growing presence of UAE companies in Ethiopia, he encouraged further investment in priority sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, mining, tourism, finance, energy, and logistics.

For his part, Ambassador-Designate Abdalla Hassan Obaid Hassan AlShamsi congratulated Ethiopia on the successful conclusion of the National Dialogue Conference. He also expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome to Ethiopia, and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Ethiopian Government to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional peace and security issues of common interest, and agreed to work together to further advance the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and the UAE.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Hadera Abera met with the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ethiopia, Kang Jung, at his office today to bid him farewell at the end of his tenure.

During the meeting, Ambassador Hadera expressed appreciation for Ambassador Kang’s contributions to strengthening the longstanding relations between Ethiopia and the Republic of Korea, which span more than six decades and are rooted in the historic bonds that the two countries share.

Ambassador Hadera encouraged South Korean investors to take advantage of Ethiopia’s conducive investment environment in agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, mining, and tourism, noting that enhanced economic engagement in these areas would contribute to further strengthening and broadening the existing cooperation and partnership between the two countries.

For his part, Ambassador Kang expressed his gratitude to the Government of Ethiopia for the support and facilitation extended to him throughout his assignment in Ethiopia.

Both sides exchanged views on ways to further advance partnership in trade, investment, development cooperation, education, technology, and people-to-people relations.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hadera Abera, held discussions with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Ethiopia, Abdullah Hassan A. Alzahrani, today at his office.

Ambassador Hadera underscored the longstanding relations between Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia, rooted in strong cultural, religious, and people-to-people ties.

He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s strong commitment to its multifaceted relations with Saudi Arabia and its readiness to work toward further deepening a mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries.

The State Minister also expressed his best wishes for Saudi Arabia’s candidate for the position of Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the 2027–2031 term, and underscored the importance of supporting qualified candidates from the Global South with a clear understanding of the challenges facing the continent and the wider global health landscape.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye said the peaceful conclusion of the National Dialogue Conference marks an important milestone in Ethiopia’s journey toward peace and national consensus.

Following the conclusion of the Conference last night, Ambassador Berhanu noted that, after more than a month of deliberations, thousands of delegates chose dialogue over confrontation.

He emphasized that the conclusion of the Conference marks the beginning of a new culture in which peaceful engagement becomes the preferred means of resolving differences.

Ambassador Berhanu further underscored that Ethiopia’s experience can offer hope to Africa and the world, demonstrating that even where divisions run deep, dialogue can open the path to peace and a shared future.

A high-level delegation led by Major General Teshome Gemechu, Director General of Foreign Relations and Military Cooperation at the FDRE Ministry of Defense, visited the United States of America from August 19-20, 2026 and held bilateral consultations at the Pentagon with their counterparts and other senior leaders of the US Department of War.

The consultation was co-led with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for African Affairs at the Pentagon, Brian J. Ellis, and an agreement was reached to elevate the military and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries to a new and advanced chapter.

The leadership of the defense institutions of both countries have agreed to expand institutional cooperation and further strengthen strategic coordination. The two sides agreed that the comprehensive and strategic partnership shall be guided by main pillars aiming to ensure protection of national interests and mutual benefits, establish lasting cooperation by strengthening mutual trust, and enhance joint efforts to ensure lasting peace, security and stability in the Horn of Africa and the wider region.

Major General Teshome Gemechu and Deputy Assistant Secretary Brian J. Ellis have affirmed their joint commitment to quickly implement the agreed frameworks and elevate the bilateral defense relationship to a better and future-oriented strategic partnership.

In addition, during their stay, the delegation held extensive discussions with other leaders of US defense institutions and conducted visits.
