Today we were pleased to open the consultation workshop on Ethiopia’s draft National Public Private Producer Partnership (4P) Strategy for small-scale irrigation. The strategy brings together government, producers, the private sector, and development partners to create more sustainable and effective irrigation systems.

New Zealand is proud to support this work through the CGIAR CSI Ukama Ustawi initiative! Congratulations to the Ministry of Agriculture - Ethiopia, International Water Management Institute (IWMI), and all stakeholders involved in developing this important strategy! Strong partnerships are key to building resilient and inclusive agriculture systems. 🇳🇿🇪🇹🤝💧

Today we had the honour and privilege of meeting and presenting awards to three extraordinary Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation midwives - women whose courage, innovation, and clinical excellence is transforming the lives of women and girls in some of the most challenging environments.

Working in remote rural areas and active conflict zones, with limited resources, these midwives go far beyond clinical care. They innovate, mobilise communities, and restore dignity and hope to women. Thank you for your service, your resilience, and your unwavering commitment to women and girls.

We were delighted to host Kidist, an incredible young woman with real ambition for international relations and diplomacy, as our New Zealand Ambassador for the day. This was part of Mau Ethiopia's campaign.

Kidist presented a thoughtful policy paper on gender equality, putting forward clear recommendations for how she would help bridge the gender gap here in Ethiopia. The quality of her presentation and the sharpness of her thinking was really inspiring!

Yesterday we celebrated the International Day of Women in Diplomacy in Addis Ababa. Thanks to H.E. Ambassador Selma Malik’s Hadaddi, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and to the Honorable Dr Ergogie Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs of the FDRE, for leading our event and sharing their insights. Across Africa and around the world, women are re-shaping diplomacy and leadership, helping deliver more inclusive and sustainable outcomes. But, despite progress towards meaningful gender equality, women are still under-represented at key decision-making forums. The International Gender Champions Movement aims to strengthen women’s voices and ensure equal and diverse representation where and when it matters. Today, Addis Ababa took the first steps in becoming an IGC hub, alongside New York, Geneva, Paris, Nairobi, Vienna, and The Hague. Thank you to all of those who took the Panel Parity Pledge today, committing not to participate in panels which feature only men, or only women. One step at a time, we will make gender equality a reality
