The Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Ethiopia had the honour of receiving Mr. Jonas Sheelongo, Executive Director of the Ministry of Works and Transport, and his delegation, who paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy during their engagement with Ethiopian Airlines Group on the establishment of a Namibian national airline. The Namibian delegation, led by Hon. Sankwasa James Sankwasa, Minister of Urban and Rural Development, this morning visited the Industrial Parks Development Corporation of Ethiopia (IPDC), a state-owned enterprise mandated to develop industrial parks and promote local manufacturing for export.

During the visit, the delegation toured a garment manufacturing facility where a variety of high-quality garments are produced for both the domestic and export markets. The factory currently employs more than 7,000 people and has the capacity to employ up to 10,000 workers. More than 80% of its employees are women.

🇳🇦 The Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Addis Ababa is honoured to host a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development and the National Planning Commission, led by Hon. Sankwasa James Sankwasa, Minister of Urban and Rural Development.

The delegation is undertaking an official benchmarking visit to Ethiopia to learn from the country’s experiences in economic planning and development, as well as to gain insights into the administration and management of local authorities.

Today, the delegation held fruitful discussions with relevant ministries and institutions of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, exchanging experiences and perspectives on economic planning, development and local governance.

On Friday, 24 July 2026, H.E. Ambassador Mbapeua Muvangua received a courtesy call from H.E. Rastislav Krizan, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Ethiopia and the African Union (AU). The Ambassador sought Namibia’s support for Slovakia’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the period 2028–2029. Ambassador Mbapeua Muvangua received a courtesy call from Mr. Abdourahamane Sylla, Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Guinea to Ethiopia and the African Union, accompanied by Ms. Sigam, Interim Director-General of the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC). This morning, 20 July 2026, H.E. Ambassador Mbapeua Muvangua joined the fraternal people of the Republic of Zambia in paying homage to their departed former Vice-President, the late H.E. Guy Lindsay Scott, who passed away on 15 July 2026.

On behalf of the staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Addis Ababa, and on my own behalf, I extend our deepest condolences to his family and to the people of the Republic of Zambia. May his patriotic legacy continue to inspire generations to come. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

This morning, H.E. Ambassador Mbapeua Muvangua received a courtesy call from Ms. Ciru Mwaura, Head of the AU Institutional Reform Unit.

The AU Institutional Reform Unit was established within the Office of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) and is mandated to oversee the day-to-day implementation of the AU’s institutional reform agenda.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, particularly the mandate of the Unit and other issues relating to the African Union.

The 1st African Pastoral Markets Forum is underway in Addis Ababa from 13–17 July 2026, organised by the AU-InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR). The Ministerial Segment took place on 16 July 2026 and was attended by Ministers responsible for the livestock sector from Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Somalia, and Uganda.

H.E. Ambassador Mbapeua Muvangua, Ambassador of the Republic of Namibia to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, delivered a statement on behalf of Hon. Inge Zaamwani, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform of the Republic of Namibia, on “Namibia’s Experience and Perspectives on Livestock Market Development, Trade Facilitation, and Investment Priorities.”
