: Dr. Tewoldebirhan Gebre-Egziabiher is Ethiopia’s first qualified plant ecologist and globally recognized environmentalist and biodiversity restoration scientist. He has represented Ethiopia and Africa at regional, continental, and global environmental events and discussions. Dr. Tewoldebirhan has been a leader in efforts to protect Ethiopia’s natural resources and promote sustainable development. He played a key role in the conservation and preservation of several national parks across the country, including the Simien Mountains National Park, UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Bale Mountains National Park. Dr. Tewoldebirhan has produced over 30 research publications and received numerous awards and recognitions for his work, including the Right Livelihood Award in 2000, the Champion of the Earth Award in 2006, and the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2019 among others.
