Madda Walabu University has begun two days Capacity Building Training on Empowering Academic Publishing for its Academia and Researchers

Madda Walabu University has embarked on a significant initiative to enhance the academic capabilities of its faculty and researchers through a two-day capacity-building training program titled “Empowering Academic Publishing: New Journal Establishment, Open Journal Systems (OJS), and Scholarly Publishing Process.” This training aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the complex landscape of academic publishing. By focusing on critical areas such as journal establishment, the utilization of OJS, and the overall scholarly publishing process, the program seeks to foster a culture of research excellence and innovation within the university.
In this remarkable Training program, Dr. Bezabeh Wendim Academic, Research Technology Transfer and Community Service vice president and delegates of the president emphasized the essential role of research and innovation in higher institution to enhance university visibility around the globe.
He added as this capacity building training assists academic staff and researchers in order to conduct research which has greater impact on teaching, policy makers’ decision and strengthen collaboration with various institutions in the country and abroad.
Dr. Abunu Arega, Head of Research and Dissemination, and a Coordinator of Ethiopian Research Accreditation at the Ministry of Education, has made detailed training on Journal Research Quality Administration, Accreditation and Indexation.
He underlined as Journal Research Quality Administration, Accreditation, and Indexation are a pivotal resource for scholars and institutions striving to enhance the integrity and visibility of their academic publications. He has also stated the critical aspects of research quality management, providing insights into best practices for ensuring rigorous peer review processes, adherence to ethical standards, and compliance with accreditation requirements. He indicated the major steps in establishing New Research Journal with the existing opportunities and challenges that the institute may face.
The second presentation has focused on comprehensive overviews of the JESSD Management System which has already well-established Journal of Madda Walabu University, by Mr. Shume Berhanu. Shume clearly stated about the process of publication, components of the journals, submission process, the roles of editors, reviewers and other essential points. Besides, he has pointed out what lessens should be learnt to establish the two new research journals proposed.
After presentation the Participants largely engaged in interactive sessions that cover essential topics, including the steps involved in establishing a new academic journal, best practices for managing journals using Open Journal Systems, and understanding the intricacies of the peer review process. The training also encourages networking and collaboration among participants, fostering a sense of community within the university’s research ecosystem and beyond.
Ultimately, Madda Walbu University’s capacity-building training represents a proactive step towards empowering its academic staff and researchers. By investing in the professional development, the university is not only enhancing its scholarly output but also positioning itself as a leader in academic excellence.
