Can you record an entire track using just one type of microphone—without the mix sounding like a single repetitive signature? 🎙️

Producer Boris Carloff put this to the test at his world-class Soundevice Studio in Prague—a facility packed with virtually any high-end and vintage microphone you can think of. Yet, he tracked an entire session—drums, double bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and lead vocals—exclusively using Sandhill ribbon microphones.

The impressive part isn’t just that it works; it’s how natural the final mix sounds. Because of their neutral response and transparent top end, stacking multiple Sandhill tracks doesn't build up heavy, unnatural "mic character". The mix stays open, precise, and organic.

It’s a clear showcase of just how versatile these microphones are across vastly different acoustic sources—from delicate acoustic instruments to powerful drums and lead vocals.

This session is a few years old now, but the sonic result is just as relevant today.

Ribbon mics are rarely associated with heavy touring, but we designed ours to handle the rigors of continuous stage use without compromising tone or reliability. Seeing them in heavy daily rotation with world-class performers is the ultimate test.
