According to Finnish Folklore, this land is the location of Father Christmas’ secret workshop, where toys, trinkets and gifts are made and eventually wrapped by gnomes. Known for their good natured demeanor and their role as guardians of homes, these gnomes are also responsible for analysing weather patterns for the yearly gift-giving trip around the world. Korvatunturi on 486 metriä korkea tunturi Suomen itärajalla Savukosken kunnassa. Se kuuluu UK-puisto-Sompio-Kemihaaran Natura 2000 -luonnonsuojelualueeseen. Tunturissa on kolme huippua, joista keskimmäisen kautta kulkee Suomen ja Venäjän välinen raja. Itäinen huippu (464 m) on kokonaan Venäjän puolellaja läntinen (411 m) Suomen puolella. Korvatunturi sijaitsee rajavyöhykkeellä, joten siellä liikkumiseen tarvitaan Rajavartiolaitoksen lupa. Korvatunturille johtaa polku entiseltä Kemihaaran rajavartioasemalta, jonne taas pääsee tietä pitkin Tulppiosta. Suomeen 1920–1944 kuuluneen Petsamon itäraja kohti Pohjoista jäämerta alkoi Korvatunturilta. Korvatunturi on myyttinen paikka, jossa Joulupukin ja joulutonttujen sanotaan asustavan. Myytti sai alkunsa, kun Markus Rautio eli Markus-setä kertoi Lastentunti-ohjelmassaan Yleisradiossa 1927 Joulupukin asuvan Korvatunturilla.
