Building Together, Giving Back ~

On 14 August 2026, KOICA Fiji, together with KOICA Alumni members, KOICA staff and JICA volunteers, came together for a meaningful collaboration activity at the HART Homes project site in Nasinu, led by Habitat for Humanity Fiji.

The activity brought together volunteers from different backgrounds to work side by side, share skills and contribute their time and energy towards a project that supports the HART Homes community.

One of the key reasons behind the current building project is to support the expansion of HART Homes’ elderly care facilities, helping them respond to the growing demand for care and support for older people. The expansion will provide additional space and help HART Homes continue providing a safe and supportive environment for elderly residents.

For us, volunteerism is about more than giving our time. It is about lending a helping hand, sharing our skills, learning from one another and making a meaningful difference in the community.

A big vinaka vakalevu to Habitat for Humanity Fiji for leading this initiative, and to all the KOICA Alumni members, KOICA staff and JICA volunteers who gave their time, energy and skills to support the project.

It was a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when organisations and volunteers come together with a shared purpose ~ building stronger communities and creating a better future for everyone.

Ground-Breaking Ceremony for KOICA–FNU Simulation Centre

Suva, Fiji – 14 August 2026

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Fiji National University (FNU) today marked an important milestone in strengthening health professions education in Fiji with the Ground-Breaking Ceremony for the KOICA–FNU Simulation Centre.

The ceremony was attended by the Honourable Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji, as Chief Guest, and His Excellency, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, together with representatives from the Government of Fiji, FNU, KOICA, the diplomatic community, faculty and students.

The Simulation Centre is a key component of KOICA’s USD 9.77 million Health Professions Education and Research Capacity Building Project at FNU. The project aims to strengthen clinical education, faculty capacity, research and practical training for Fiji’s future healthcare professionals.

The new Centre will provide a modern environment for simulation-based clinical training, enabling students and healthcare professionals to practise essential skills in a safe and controlled setting. It will also support continuing professional development and innovative approaches to health education.

The ground-breaking ceremony marks the beginning of an important investment in Fiji’s health workforce and reflects the strong partnership between the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Fiji.

KOICA and FNU look forward to working together to deliver a facility that will contribute to the development of a highly skilled and capable health workforce and, ultimately, better healthcare outcomes for the people of Fiji.

[KOICA Fiji Office Hosts ‘KOICA Korean Culture Day’]

Bula! Warm greetings from the KOICA Fiji Office.

On June 17, the KOICA Fiji Office hosted the ‘KOICA Korean Culture Day’ for about 180 Year 9 and 10 students at Basden College, where our KOICA Science Volunteer is currently actively serving.

To kick off the event on a meaningful note, the KOICA Fiji Office donated 30 sets of desks and chairs along with 5 whiteboards, sharing our heartfelt support for the students' better educational environment.

Following the donation, the event offered an interactive space for cultural exchange, allowing students to get hands-on experience with Korean culture by writing their names in Hangul, folding origami Hanbok, and trying on traditional clothing. The highlight of the day was the traditional Korean games—featuring Jegichagi, Ddakjichigi, Gongginori, and Tuho—which filled the venue with enthusiastic cheers and endless laughter.

In response, the students expressed their warm hospitality and gratitude by performing a traditional Fijian 'Meke' dance and singing a beautiful farewell song, making the cultural exchange even more special.

This event was brought to life by 10 KOICA WFK volunteers, 10 KOICA Fiji Office staff members, and 2 KOICA Alumni Association members.

Moving forward, the KOICA Fiji Office will continue to support the bright future of Fijian youth through meaningful and warm cultural exchanges between our two countries.
