The Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission (FHRADC) is pleased to welcome law students from the University of the South Pacific (USP), who have joined the Commission for their professional attachment as part of their Law Clinic class. 📚🤝

The attachment provides students with practical exposure to the Commission’s work in promoting and protecting human rights and addressing discrimination, while giving them an opportunity to connect classroom learning with human rights practice. ⚖️🌏

Sign language interpretation is essential to ensuring that deaf, Deaf and hard-of-hearing persons have equal access to information, public services and meaningful participation in society. 🌍

The hand movements, facial expressions and body language used by sign language interpreters are essential linguistic elements that convey meaning. They must never be mocked, ridiculed or treated as entertainment.

Mocking sign language interpretation undermines human dignity, reinforces harmful stereotypes and contributes to discrimination and exclusion.
