The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), through the Office of the Divisional Commissioner Northern, under the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, in collaboration with the Fiji Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport, and the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF), continues to coordinate emergency water carting operations in the Northern Division amid ongoing dry conditions and the effects of El Niño.

A total of 𝟮𝟬𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 has been successfully distributed to 𝗩𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗸𝗼𝗱𝗶 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗩𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗱𝗶 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁, 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝘂𝗸𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘂 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗱𝘂 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹

The confirmed allocation includes:

• 𝗩𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗸𝗼𝗱𝗶 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 – 𝟵𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀
• 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝘂𝗸𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘂 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 – 𝟱𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀
• 𝗨𝗱𝘂 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 – 𝟲𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀
•𝗚𝗲𝘃𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘄𝗮

The MLC Vatulawa has since berthed at Malau Jetty to facilitate water tank refills via land trucks and support the continuation of emergency water supply operations.

Water carting operations have also been extended to 𝗚𝗲𝘃𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘄𝗮, with the water delivery to 𝗞𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘄𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 successfully completed.

The delivery of fresh water to 𝗗𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗱𝗿𝘂𝗮 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 remains pending, while the delivery to 𝗖𝗶𝗸𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗮 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 remains postponed due to the Strong Wind Warning issued by the Fiji Meteorological Service.

The NDRMO, together with relevant government agencies and stakeholders, continues to closely monitor the situation and coordinate emergency water supply operations to ensure affected communities receive essential water supplies.

Communities in affected areas are reminded to 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 as Fiji continues to experience dry conditions.

The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), through the Office of the Divisional Commissioner Western, under the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, in collaboration with the Fiji Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport, and the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF), is currently facilitating the third emergency water carting operation in Malolo Island, Western Division.

The operation aims to provide essential water supplies to communities on the island and address immediate water needs amid dry conditions.

Through coordinated efforts between government ministries, divisional authorities and the Water Authority of Fiji, the operation supports ongoing efforts to assist communities experiencing water shortages and maintain access to essential water supplies.

Residents are encouraged to conserve available water resources, use water responsibly, and prioritise essential household needs while emergency water carting operations continue.

NDRMO acknowledges the collaborative efforts of all agencies involved in the operation and remains committed to working with relevant stakeholders to support affected communities and strengthen resilience to drought and other climate-related challenges.

The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) convened the National Disaster Risk Management Regulations Workshop from 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 at The Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbour.

The workshop brought together representatives from Government, development partners, non-governmental organisations, civil society, humanitarian organisations, communities and other key stakeholder groups to review and validate the final draft regulations supporting the 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰.

The review assessed the administrative, institutional and operational mechanisms needed to implement the Act. Key areas included 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺, 𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲.

The process aimed to clarify responsibilities, address implementation challenges and ensure a 𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 for disaster risk governance.

The workshop represents an important step towards 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 and advancing them through the appropriate Government approval processes.

The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management , through the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), in collaboration with the Divisional Commissioner Central Office, is currently supporting a water carting operation at 𝗬𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗰𝗮 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱.

The MLC Vunilagi was deployed on 07 October 2026 and is currently carrying out water carting to support communities on the island affected by the ongoing dry conditions and water shortages.

The operation is part of the Government’s continued efforts to provide essential water supplies to communities experiencing water stress as the dry conditions persist.

NDRMO, in collaboration with the Fiji Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport, and the Water Authority of Fiji, continues to coordinate and monitor water supply operations to ensure affected communities receive the necessary assistance.

Communities are encouraged to conserve water and use available water supplies responsibly during this period.

The Government remains committed to supporting affected communities and ensuring essential water supplies reach those in need.

The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management , in collaboration with the Divisional Commissioner Northern Office, the Fiji Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport , and the Water Authority of Fiji, will continue supporting communities affected by the prevailing 𝗱𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀.

The 𝗠𝗟𝗖 𝗩𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘄𝗮 has departed 𝗦𝘂𝘃𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗹𝘆 to carry out an emergency water supply operation to 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘂, before proceeding to 𝗖𝗶𝗸𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗮, to assist communities experiencing reduced access to water.

The operation is part of the Government’s ongoing response to the impacts of the current. 𝗘𝗹 𝗡𝗶ñ𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿, particularly in vulnerable maritime communities.

The National Disaster Risk Management Office continues to urge communities to 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 during this period of reduced rainfall.

𝗙𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 on the deployment and relief water distribution will be provided as the operation progresses.
