Celebrating friendship and partnership with our Pacific allies 🇲🇭 🇵🇼 🇹🇻

MOFA Minister Lin Chia-lung joined President Lai Ching-te at the Pacific Cultural Gala in Taipei, where they welcomed ambassadors from Taiwan’s Pacific allies, including Marshall Islands Ambassador Anjanette Kattil, Palau Ambassador David Adams Orrukem, and Tuvalu Ambassador Lily Tangisia Faavae.

Held ahead of the 55th Pacific Islands Forum, the gala was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the enduring friendships between Taiwan and our Pacific partners. The Marshall Islands, Palau, and Tuvalu have consistently supported Taiwan in international forums, and we are proud to share deep Austronesian cultural connections with them.

As we look to the future, Taiwan will continue working hand in hand with our Pacific allies to promote sustainable development, mutual prosperity, and stronger people-to-people ties.

Kommol Tata! Sulang! Faafetai! Thank you!

Taiwan sincerely thanks the international community for its continued support for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly.

This year, leaders and institutions from more than 50 countries have voiced their support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the 79th World Health Assembly.

Highlights include:

🔹 Eleven of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies that are members of the World Health Organization proposed supplementary agenda items supporting Taiwan’s participation in the WHA.

🔹 The Congress of Guatemala and the National Assembly of Saint Kitts and Nevis passed resolutions backing Taiwan’s participation in the international community.

🔹 The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and Sweden’s Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard both publicly supported Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations. The European Union also noted that there is no international consensus supporting the PRC’s “One China Principle,” which the EU does not recognize.

🔹 U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mike Waltz and the U.S. Department of State reiterated their support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations.

Lawmakers from many countries, along with international medical organizations such as the World Medical Association and numerous NGOs, have also spoken up through letters, joint statements, and social media campaigns, emphasizing that no one should be left behind in global health efforts.

Taiwan continues to contribute to global healthcare through its advanced smart health technology and strong medical system. Through initiatives like the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, Taiwan has worked closely with partners around the world to help improve healthcare and save lives.

We are deeply grateful to our friends and partners for recognizing and supporting Taiwan’s contributions to global health.

誠摯感謝國際社會力挺台灣參與世界衛生大會!

A big thank you to our allies for voicing their support for Taiwan’s participation in the global public health system at ❤️

As the 79th World Health Assembly continues in Geneva, we sincerely appreciate 🇵🇼 and 🇵🇾 for speaking up for Taiwan during the WHA plenary session’s two-on-two debate. They highlighted Taiwan’s expertise, experience, and willingness to contribute to global health, while also reinforcing the important principle of leaving no one behind 🫶

Taiwan continues to play a key role in high-tech industries, global healthcare, and pandemic prevention. By being included in the international public health network, Taiwan can further share its strengths and help improve health outcomes around the world.

20/05/2026

MOFA Minister Lin Chia-lung and Minister of Health and Welfare Shih Chung-liang joined an international press conference in Geneva to officially kick off Taiwan’s World Health Assembly campaign, along with the opening of the Taiwan Smart Medical & HealthTech Expo 🙌

The expo brings together representatives from 30 leading medical institutions and companies, highlighting Taiwan’s strengths in innovative medicine, smart healthcare, and resilient healthcare systems. It’s a great opportunity for Taiwan’s medical experts to connect and collaborate with the international community.

Through this event, Taiwan is showcasing how technology and innovation are helping build stronger, more resilient healthcare systems — and reinforcing Taiwan’s important role in global healthcare networks.

13/05/2026

Taiwan strongly condemns China’s latest attempt to block Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA) through false claims and political pressure.

The facts are clear:
🔹 The Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent nation.
🔹 Taiwan has never been governed by the People’s Republic of China.
🔹 UNGA Resolution 2758 and WHA Resolution 25.1 do not mention Taiwan and cannot be used to exclude Taiwan from international participation.

Health is a universal human right — not a political tool.

Taiwan has consistently contributed to global public health and epidemic prevention, earning recognition from partners around the world. As a responsible and constructive member of the international community, Taiwan stands ready to work with the world to build a healthier future for all 🌍

We urge the WHO to uphold professionalism and neutrality, resist political interference, and invite Taiwan to participate in the WHA as an observer.

■ MOFA condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the PRC’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for issuing false statements on May 11 that sought to downgrade Taiwan’s sovereignty. These remarks included the inappropriate citation of China’s so-called “one China principle” and the spurious claim that Taiwan’s inclusion in international organizations required approval. They were aimed at obstructing Taiwan’s participation in the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA).

🔺The Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent nation and neither it nor the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is subordinate to the other.

🔺Taiwan has the right to participate in such international organizations as the United Nations. And China has no right to comment or interfere with this.

🔺Following World War II, the Treaty of San Francisco—which has the force of international law—replaced political declarations such as the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation. The treaty did not grant sovereignty over Taiwan to the PRC, and the PRC has never governed Taiwan. Taiwan has never been part of the PRC.

🔺MOFA once again underscores that United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and WHA Resolution 25.1 make no mention of Taiwan. Thus, the resolutions cannot serve as a basis for precluding Taiwan’s participation in the UN system or other international organizations.

MOFA emphasizes that health is a fundamental human right and should not be subject to political interference. Taiwan’s contributions to global epidemic prevention and public health have been internationally recognized. It is an indispensable, constructive partner of the global health system. MOFA urges the WHO Secretariat to uphold professionalism and neutrality, reject political interference by China, and promptly invite Taiwan to participate in the WHA as an observer to enable Taiwan to make greater contributions to global public health.
