Reopening of Schools

The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts confirms that schools will open as advised earlier.

Years 8 to 11 will start school on 4 January, 2022 while Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Year 7 will start on 10 January, 2022. Years 12 to 13, who already started school earlier and are currently on Christmas break, will resume school from 4 January, 2022.

“We are having daily discussions with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, WHO and UNICEF, and if the situation changes, I will make appropriate announcement. Right now, Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts, Heads of Schools and teachers are preparing schools for re-opening and also stand ready to implement any additional measures that may be brought in by Ministry of Health and Medical Services. I urge parents and students to take heed of the advisories issued by the MHMS,” said the Minister.

“Some parents are saying that they don't want to send their children to school. I can only say that we can't force them to send their children to school. It's their decision. Majority of the parents want their children to get back to school,” the Minister added.

The Ministry places strong emphasis on education and would not want to compromise children's education through longer school closure.

The decision to open schools or any other decision on schools will be made based on scientific data and advice from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, WHO and UNICEF with whom the Ministry is liaising very closely.

“I expect the media to be responsible and report accurately rather than negatively hyping issues that are not relevant. At this time, in particular, we all need to come together and ensure that correct information reaches the public, teachers, parents and students,” the Minister reiterated.

Every citizen has to be responsible for their own safety and the safety of those around them.

The Minister emphasised that everyone should observe COVID-SAFE MEASURES at all times and get their Booster shots. Parents are encouraged to get their children fully vaccinated.

“I take this opportunity to wish everyone a very productive new year and hope that we will have better days sooner," said the Minister.

Bula vinaka to our parents, guardians and students.

Firstly, we would like to take this time to thank you all for your continous support regarding our class programme and our online classes. Lastly, we would like to remind you parents and guardians that you need to start looking for school that you want your child to go to next year for Year 9. You need to go to the respective school to enquire and get the enrollment done before it's too late.

We hope that you will take heed of all the reminders we are giving out and we wish all the best for our students in their next assessment. Our prayers and thoughts are coming your way so good luck on your exam students.

Bula vinaka and welcome once again to another new week.

I wish to remind everyone that this week we will be giving out Worksheet 6 and today is our day for collection. With it also if you have already given your Worksheet 5 for marking then you will also be collecting it.

Please be reminded that there will be no online class for this week as we are awaiting for student to collect their Worksheets 5 and likewise for those to return it to school for marking.

Once again we have noted the slight decline and response in the collection of students worksheet and likewise for our online classes participants. We are concerned and we would like to see some improvement in this.

We would like to encourage you all that whatever situation you are going through please prioritize what is good for your children. Think of their future and give all your support towards them especially to the new norm of learning we are going through. Even though the Minister of Education have said that they will be promoted to Year 9 next year. Note that they still need to know their Year 8 coverage well so that there is a smooth transition when they move in next year to Year 9.

Please be resilient and take proactive measures so your child can be successful in the future. Remember that we are all on this together and we must continue to work together for the betterment of our future generations.

We do hope that you will consider our request and we look forward to your continous support.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are finding difficulties. Please do let us know so we can make arrangements or help you.

So no matter how tough this week goes. Face every challenge with courage. Wishing you all a blessed and a successful week.
