🇫🇯 SUVA CITY COUNCIL COMMEMORATES RATU SUKUNA DAY
The Suva City Council held a Ratu Sukuna Day Commemoration at the Civic Auditorium to honour the life and legacy of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna, one of Fiji’s most respected leaders.
Commemorating Ratu Sir Lala Vanayaliyali Sukuna (1888–1958), the programme recognised the life of a visionary Fijian chief, scholar, soldier, and statesman. Widely regarded as the forerunner of post-independence leadership in Fiji, Ratu Sukuna played an instrumental role in laying the foundation for self-governance and strengthening national institutions, including the iTaukei Land Trust Board.
Held under the theme"Ratu Sukuna-The Vision to Build,The Courage to Lead” the programme highlighted Ratu Sukuna’s contribution to leadership, education, public service, and national unity.
The Chairman of the Suva City Council-Mr Tevita Boseiwaqa said the commemoration was an important reminder of the values of service, discipline, and leadership that continues to guide communities today.
The event also featured the Suva Carnegie Library display and the Fiji Musuem timeline on the life of Fijis Statesman Ratu Sukuna, encouraging staff to support learning and service to the community.
