US Embassy Koror: The United States opposes any attempts by China to weaponize tourism to coerce Palau. Chinaโ€™s recent travel advisory notes that its citizens should exercise extra caution when traveling to Palau, claiming there were numerous incidents of theft and robbery, as well as a dangerous local marine environment and frequent accidents involving tourists.

While overseas travelers should always exercise normal precautions, the U.S. Travel Advisory for Palau remains at Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions, reflecting our continued assessment of Palau as a generally safe destination for U.S. travelers.
We call on Beijing to cease all its coercive activities against Palau.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ โœˆ๏ธ ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ผ ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฒ ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ง ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ฎ Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau will travel to Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Solomon Islands, and Kiribati from August 31 to September 11. In Palau, the Deputy Secretary will participate in the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leadersโ€™ Meeting with Forum Dialogue Partners to strengthen ties between the United States and Pacific Islands governments. In FSM and Solomon Islands, he will meet with government representatives and business leaders to further advance our shared economic and security priorities. In Kiribati, he will attend the Kiribati Development Partners Forum and meet with government representatives.

With support from the American and New Zealand governments, 22 compliance officers from 10 Pacific countries successfully investigated, charged, and presented eight simulated cases of illegal fishing activity to a mock court. The experience is part of coursework offered through partnership between The University of the South Pacific and the Pacific-Community-SPC, designed to produce a cadre of Pacific professionals with certified expertise capable holding bad actors accountable in the effort to combat illegal fishing in the region.

The U.S. government is proud to support programs that reinforced its commitment to sustainable fisheries, shared prosperity, and maritime security across the region.
