With the commencement of the Fiji Ministry of Health and Medical Services EMT Initiative, the next steps towards successful verification was to conduct a logistics training to familiarize the FEMAT Members with the FEMAT cache. Fifteen (15) FEMAT Members were selected to undertake the inaugural logistics training. The training was facilitated by both International faculty members and FEMAT TWG Members.

The Fiji Government had invested in building a custom-build medical boat. In 2018, the Government launched the $8 million vessel MV Veivueti. The purpose of this medical boat is to serve the hard to reach and our island/maritime populations and to provide medical services. Apart from this, the vessel will also support disaster relief and humanitarian operations. FEMAT was instrumental in the medical layout/ design of the vessel and has been assigned responsibility to manage outreach programs using the vessel.

After detailed training needs analysis in late 2017 by the Fiji Ministry of Health and FEMAT Strategic Advisory Committee to determine priority learning needs, the first Team Member Training(TMT) was conducted at the Pearl Resort, Pacific Harbour. The training package was designed for use at an individual deployee’s entry point into the EMT’s wider learning pathways, as part of an integrated strategy for building roster capacity.

The Global EMT Meeting is the platform to discuss EMT capacity strengthening at local, national and regional level, get updates on development of minimum standards in clinical and operational areas as well as identification of gap areas for further development, share recent developments and good practice sharing in deployment of EMTs from the technical, clinical, legal and operational perspectives,collaborate with other initiatives and networks and also have an opportunity to address strategic governance and future direction of the EMT initiative, including global and regional priority setting and work planning.....
