Republic of the Marshall Islands and Chile Discuss Further Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Hon. Kalani R. Kaneko held a bilateral meeting with the Honourable Francisco Pérez Mackenna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile, where they exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and to explore opportunities for strengthening bilateral relations and practical cooperation between the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Chile.

Discussions highlighted the shared interests of both countries as Pacific nations and the importance of enhanced cooperation in addressing common regional and global challenges. The two Ministers exchanged perspectives on key issues affecting the Pacific region, including climate change, ocean governance, fisheries, environmental sustainability, and the sustainable management and protection of marine resources.

Minister Kaneko emphasized the Republic of the Marshall Islands’ commitment to strengthening engagement with Chile and welcomed opportunities to deepen cooperation in areas of shared priority. Both sides also recognized the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration in regional and international forums, particularly in advancing shared interests and addressing the unique challenges facing Pacific Island countries.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Chile to further strengthen mutual understanding and friendship and to explore new avenues for cooperation in support of a peaceful, resilient, and prosperous Pacific region.

Republic of the Marshall Islands Strengthens Engagement with Switzerland

Minister Kaneko, at the margins of the PIF Leader Meeting in Palau, met with Her Excellency Barbara A. Gonzenbach, Special Envoy for the Pacific Region, based in Canberra and H.E Edgar Doerig, Ambassador-designate to the Republic of the Marshall Islands, based in Manila.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to exchange views on a range of issues of shared interest and global significance, including climate change, human rights, the ongoing legacy of nuclear testing, and opportunities to strengthen fisheries infrastructure and development. Both sides also discussed the importance of continued cooperation and mutual support within regional and international forums, particularly on issues affecting Small Island Developing States and the wider Pacific region.

Minister Kaneko and Special Envoy Gonzenbach reaffirmed the value of strengthened engagement between the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Switzerland and recognized the importance of international partnerships in advancing shared priorities, promoting sustainable development, and addressing the complex challenges facing the Pacific.

The Marshall Islands continues to look forward to continued engagement with Switzerland and to further strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
