The High Commissioner was privileged to join the Labour Tripartite officials meeting in Nadi from 11th - 13th May, culminating in the Labour Ministerial Meeting on Wednesda13th May. The Meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Employment of the Republic of Fiji.
Great discussions amongst participating member countries on the governance and institutional arrangements of a business case for a stand alone Labour ministers meeting (LMM) aligned under the Regional Architecture through the Pacific Islands Forum (PIFs).
Honorable Andrew Napuat, Minister for Internal Affairs, in his statement emphasized that the meeting was being convened at a critical time for our Pacific family when our countries are facing continued socioeconomic pressures, including rising unemployment, labor mobility challenges, labor, shortages, and migration challenges, climate change impacts and the need to strengthen workforce resilience and productivity. He also reiterated, that labour, employment, skills development, and work force governance are central to regional economic resilience, productivity and social stability and long-term prosperity for our countries in the region, including Vanuatu.
