History was made today as the final review reports on two key pieces of land legislation i.e the ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐˜€ ๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜ ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿต๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฑ and the ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—จ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ were officially handed over to Acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Honourable Siromi Turaga, and Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Honourable Filimoni Vosarogo, bringing these laws one step closer to reform.

The significance of today's ceremony was reflected in the strong turnout of government officials, legal experts and collaborative partners who gathered to witness this important milestone in Fiji's legislative reform journey.

Speaking at the event, Honourable Siromi Turaga highlighted that many of Fiji's laws were enacted in a very different era and must now evolve to address contemporary challenges.

The reviews were undertaken through a collaborative effort between the Fiji Law Reform Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources, involving extensive research, nationwide public consultations, stakeholder engagement, and internal consultations.

Honourable Filimoni Vosarogo noted that while these laws have served Fiji for decades, the physical, social, environmental, and economic realities of the country have changed significantly. He stressed that Fiji's legal frameworks must evolve alongside the nation and remain fit for purpose for the next 50 years.

"The ultimate impact is to make sure that people's lives become better," Honourable Vosarogo stated. "Whilst these reforms are intended to improve efficiency within the Ministry, support ease of doing business, and strengthen land administration, their greatest impact will be on the people of Fiji."

The Minister further emphasised that effective state land management has a multiplier effect across the economy, contributing to national development outcomes under the National Development Plan and Vision 2050.

A key strength of the review process was the inclusion of the voices of ordinary Fijians. Through public consultations, citizens were provided a platform to share their views, concerns, and aspirations for the future of land management in Fiji.

Following today's handover, the Office of the Attorney-General will undertake a detailed review of the final reports, draft Bills, and accompanying Cabinet papers as the reform process progresses towards Cabinet consideration and Parliament.

The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources extends its sincere appreciation to the Fiji Law Reform Commission, Part-Time Commissioners, the Office of the Attorney-General, stakeholders, and all members of the public who contributed to this important national achievement.
