Our Riverside Gite is ideal for a fishing break. You can fish the river Vienne from the garden or from the many surrounding lakes. The river holds a large head of Barbel, wild river Carp, Pike, Perch, Zander, Bream, Rudd and particularly large Catfish. One of the largest river catfish caught in France was caught in the River Vienne right opposite Riverside Gite. You can also trot for Chubb in the river.
Average size of fish you can expect to catch are:
Barbel 4 - 7 lbs.
Carp 10 - 50lbs
Perch 1- 4lbs
Pike 5 - 25lbs
Cat Fish 20-100lbs
Zander 5 -10lbs
Chubb 2 - 6lb
Best methods are ledgering with boilies, pork luncheon meat or worms
Being a category 2 river, you can fish all year around and use either fly or coarse tackle. This opens up opportunities for all anglers to have some excellent sport.
The river meanders through the countryside giving deep slow pools and smaller fast shallows. Fishing by the weirs in summer is superb with a constant flow of water no matter what the river level happens to be.
You can buy a day ticket for this beautiful river for just 10 euros, or a holiday permit for 2 weeks for 32.00 euros, (I will check to see if this is the same this year)
The La Rallerie Lake, ( approx. 200 mtrs from the house) is hardly fished and is stocked with carp, catfish, silver fish and Barbel. To fish it is €5 per day for up to 3 rods per angler, we can arrange the permits for you. There is lake at Persac, (2.8kms away) which is slightly larger, that holds the same as La Rallerie but also includes Tench, again permits are needed. These are the two nearest to us but there are other multiple lakes in our area. We also know a fishing guide who can assist you.
There are a couple of fishing tackle shops locally with equipment, bait and guidance if needed.
You will find that it is a nice quiet area to fish, one of the last undiscovered fishing areas of France
