(9)

Welcome to Château d'Humières, built following the French Revolution and extended in the centuries that followed, the castle was gradually expended from an initial hunting pavilion. The castle was occupied by the Prémont family until the Great War when the castle grounds were used by British forces as an airfield for the 32nd squadron of allied fighter planes, and again in the Second World War ser

ving the German Luftwaffe in directing V1 launches towards England from the castle grounds. The family returned to the chateau and injected life back into it by hosting popular horsejumping events until the death of the Viscountess Prémont. The house and grounds began to fall into disrepair by the 1980’s until it was protected as a historic monument. After which plans where made to turn the chateau into holiday housing – these plans never came to fruition and due to heavy winters along with standing empty, the building crumbled away. Then, a Belgium artist and painter came to the rescue of the château. After her death her son continues to restore the masterpiece back into a French wonder. Works at the chateau continue, whilst the renovated coach house is available for holiday stays in this tranquil part of Northern France. Come and join us on our journey…
