🐝🍯 As part of the , focus on ZimBEE, a project addressing food insecurity and poverty in Zimbabwe
🔍 The honey sector in Zimbabwe holds strong potential for sustainable and inclusive economic development, through increased production, improved marketing and stronger intermediary organisations. However, the current structure of the sector, along with existing production and processing practices, prevents it from realising its full potential.
🤝 Funded by AFD - Agence Française de Développement and implemented by Expertise France, the project aims to support all stakeholders across a priority value chain for the Government, leveraging its dual potential for reducing rural vulnerability and empowering women and youth, while developing a high-value honey export sector through stronger coordination and improved quality standards.
▶ To do so, ZimBEE adopts a three-pronged strategy :
🎯 Support the Zimbabwean export promotion agency ZimTrade and strengthen its internal capacity.
🎯 Create an “excellence hub” dedicated to research, studies, and the analysis of honey through the creation of an analytical laboratory.
🎯 Provide technical assistance and increase the economic resilience of women beekeepers and the beekeeping sector in Zimbabwe.
🏃🏾♂️🏃🏾♀️🐝 Sunday 17th of May, joined stakeholders from Zimbabwe’s apiculture sector hosted a regional bee marathon with participants from Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia. This initiative aims to support the visibility of the project and will be hosted by Kenya next year.
