We are excited to introduce acclaimed screenwriter and novelist Howard A. Rodman as the 2026 American Library in Paris Writer-in-Residence 🎬

Rodman is the author of the novels Destiny Express and The Great Eastern. As a screenwriter, his films include Joe Gould’s Secret; August with Josh Hartnett, Rip Torn, and David Bowie; and Savage Grace with Julianne Moore and Eddie Redmayne. On television, he’s written for Fallen Angels and staffed on HBO Max’s The Idol. A Vice President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and a member of the Screenwriters Hall of Fame, Rodman brings to the Library a remarkable breadth of experience and a lifelong passion for storytelling across the page and screen.

This September, we welcomed our Fall 2026 Cultural Fellow Leïla Slimani; acclaimed author Tommy Orange, author of There There and Wandering Stars; a stellar panel celebrating Black authors and illustrators, featuring Paula Chase, Judy Allen Dodson, Sharon G. Flake, Ekua Holmes, E.B. Lewis, Ebony L. Mudd, Kelly Starling Lyons, and Tricia Elam Walker; award-winning Ukrainian journalist Nataliya Gumenyuk in conversation with Dial editor Madeleine Schwartz; and Pulitzer Prize finalist Suzy Hansen.

Remembering Charles Trueheart, Director of the Library from 2007 to 2017, who passed away on 15 September.

During his decade-long tenure, Charlie modernized and expanded our spaces and services, greatly enlarged our literary and cultural programming, strengthened our relationships with donors and partners, and established initiatives that remain central to our identity today, including the Book Award. Charlie revived the annual Gala, championed programming for children and teens, and oversaw the transformative renovation that created the Florence Gould Reading Room. The Library’s growing role as a vibrant center of literary and intellectual life in Paris owes much to his vision.

Flick through decades of fashion history (with clean, dry hands) with the Library's extraordinary fashion archives. We are home to one of the largest and accessible Vogue collections in Europe, dating back to 1943, alongside substantial runs of Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Vanity Fair, and more.

And just in time for Paris Fashion Week, our fashion archives are available to browse online through ProQuest Fashion Studies Collection, a comprehensive digital archive now available to Library members
