Lyon Ghanaian Community Outreach 2026

Her Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong, Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to France, undertook a successful official visit to Lyon, France, from 26–27 June 2026 as part of the Embassy's efforts to strengthen Ghana's partnership with regional authorities and deepen engagement with the Ghanaian community in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region.

The visit formed part of the Embassy's broader agenda to advance Ghana's economic diplomacy, promote investment and tourism, strengthen cultural ties, and foster closer collaboration between Ghana and France.

During the visit, Her Excellency held separate high-level meetings with Mr. Étienne Guyot, Prefect of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and the Rhône Department, and Mr. Christophe Jacquemain, Deputy Mayor of Lyon. Discussions centred on expanding cooperation between Ghana and the City of Lyon in key sectors including agriculture, agro-processing, trade and investment, healthcare, education, tourism, transportation, innovation, and security.

Healthcare featured prominently, particularly following the recent One Health Summit in Lyon co-chaired by H.E. President John Dramani Mahama and H.E. President Emmanuel Macron.

Lyon's internationally recognised expertise in biomedical research, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare innovation was identified as an area offering significant opportunities for collaboration with Ghana.

Both sides also explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation in defence and security, health innovation, tourism promotion, and cultural exchanges, while reaffirming their commitment to translating the discussions into practical initiatives that will benefit both Ghana and France.

A key highlight of the visit was a Town Hall Meeting with members of the Ghanaian community in Lyon. In her opening remarks, Her Excellency briefed the community on the mandate of the Embassy and provided an update on the work undertaken since assuming office.

She reaffirmed the Embassy's commitment to strengthening engagement with Ghanaians across France and encouraged the diaspora to continue contributing to Ghana's development.

The programme featured presentations by senior Embassy officials on Consular Services, Diaspora Affairs, and Investment and Tourism Opportunities in Ghana.

The interactive session provided participants with an opportunity to raise questions on a wide range of issues, including Consular services, investment, trade, tourism, diaspora engagement, and national development.

Her Excellency responded comprehensively to the concerns raised, reassuring participants of Government's commitment to the Reset Agenda and its implementation. The discussions left members of the Ghanaian community with a clearer understanding of the objectives of the Accra Reset Agenda and renewed confidence in the Government's vision for Ghana's economic transformation and inclusive development.

As part of the outreach programme, the Embassy also provided on-site consular services, enabling members of the Ghanaian community to access essential consular assistance and engage directly with Embassy officials on matters affecting them.

The visit concluded on a high note as Her Excellency joined members of the Ghanaian community to watch Ghana's FIFA World Cup match against Croatia.

Her Excellency and the delegation returned to Paris on Sunday, 28 June 2026, following a highly successful visit that reinforced Ghana's commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with the City of Lyon while promoting investment, tourism, and meaningful engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora in France.

AMBASSADOR MAVIS AMA FRIMPONG OPENS FEF-AI4SD CONFERENCE 2026 IN PARIS

The FEF-AI4SD Conference 2026 officially opened on 29 June 2026 at the FIAP Jean Monnet Conference Centre in Paris, bringing together researchers, policymakers, diplomats, academics, and industry leaders from Africa and Europe to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing sustainable development. The conference, which runs until 3 July 2026, features scientific presentations, panel discussions, stakeholder engagements, and a technical visit to the world-class research facilities at Université Paris-Saclay.

Her Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong, Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to France, delivered the opening remarks, emphasising that Africa is no longer a passive consumer of digital technologies but is increasingly emerging as a creator of knowledge and innovation capable of addressing its own development challenges. She highlighted Ghana's commitment to building a robust artificial intelligence ecosystem through the development of a National AI Strategy and the launch of the country's AI agenda under the leadership of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama.

Her Excellency noted that the responsible application of AI has the potential to transform key sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture, scientific research, and economic development.

In her remarks, the Ambassador commended Dr. Daniel Adjei, PhD Research Engineer at the Institut de Chimie Physique, Université Paris-Saclay, for his leadership in strengthening Ghana–France scientific cooperation through the FEF-AI4SD initiative.

She praised his efforts in bringing together leading researchers, policymakers, and institutions from both countries to foster collaboration in artificial intelligence and sustainable development.

Her Excellency also acknowledged the significant contributions of the Ghanaian delegation, including Professor Jerry John Kponyo and his team from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), representatives from the University of Cape Coast, and Professor Francis Hasford, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, and his delegation. She noted that their participation reflects Ghana's growing leadership in AI research, innovation, and scientific collaboration.

A major highlight of the opening ceremony was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KNUST and Université Paris-Saclay, witnessed by Her Excellency. The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in artificial intelligence, scientific research, innovation, academic exchange, capacity building, and technology transfer. It is expected to facilitate joint research projects, staff and student exchanges, and the development of innovative solutions that contribute to sustainable development in both Ghana and France.

The conference also brought together senior French Government officials and leading research experts, underscoring its international character. Among them was Madame Clarisse Munier, Deputy Director for Europe and International Affairs responsible for the Middle East and India, who highlighted the importance of scientific diplomacy and international cooperation in addressing global challenges. She was joined by representatives of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, who reaffirmed France's commitment to strengthening research, innovation, and higher education partnerships with Ghana and the wider African continent.

The FEF-AI4SD Conference 2026 marks another important milestone in the growing partnership between Ghana and France in science, technology, and innovation. As the conference continues through 3 July 2026, participants will engage in scientific presentations, stakeholder discussions, and visits to leading research facilities at Université Paris-Saclay, further strengthening collaboration in artificial intelligence and sustainable development.

The Embassy of Ghana remains committed to supporting partnerships that advance research, innovation, and knowledge exchange for the mutual benefit of Ghana, France, and the wider African continent.

It was an honor and a true pleasure to join Senator Hélène Conway-Mouret, Vice-Chairwoman of the French Senate’s Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Armed Forces Committee, alongside my esteemed colleague ambassadors, for the 11th Meeting of Women in Diplomacy.

Our discussions focused heavily on strengthening bilateral relations, and fostering deeper economic and cultural cooperation between Ghana and our partner nations.

We also engaged in a profound dialogue on the role of women in state diplomacy. By sharing best practices, we look forward to further advancing gender equality within spheres of influence and ensuring women are robustly integrated into decision-making processes.

Investing in women in diplomacy is essential for promoting lasting peace, inclusive governance, and tackling our shared global challenges.

Thank you, Hon. Minister Hélène Conway-Mouret, for hosting this vital initiative!
