Drinkable Rivers is now connected with one of the plum trees. Many of them were not only self-seeded in the wild, but had also worked their way to the light in the once overgrown and dark forest. After the renovation of the forest we were able to see the interesting shapes, unnatural and yet natural, since nature determines whether or not a tree belongs there. Although crooked and twisted, they produce delicious fruit.
ABOUT DRINKABLE RIVERS
In 2005 Li An Phoa canoed the full length of a river in Canada, the Rupert. All along the way, she could drink water straight from the river. Three years later, Li An came back and she could not drink from the Rupert anymore. The river was polluted as a result of dams and mining. Fish died, people got ill. The delicate balance in the ecosystem was destroyed. Li An was devastated, and she took action. She established Drinkable Rivers, a foundation to create awareness and to involve people to make our rivers drinkable again. By means of River Walks in European countries to engage with mayors, schools and organisation and activate them to care for ‘their’ rivers. But also by means of building networks to initiate actions, often led by water professionals, environmental activists, artists, business people and politicians. All this to develop tools to enable concrete action towards drinkable rivers.
