World Forum for Democracy / Forum mondial de la Démocratie The World Forum for Democracy brings together reformers and global leaders to identify democratic responses to challenges which affect our societies today.

Organised by the Council of Europe, the World Forum for Democracy is supported by the French Government, the City of Strasbourg and the Alsace Region. The World Forum for Democracy is a unique platform for political decision-makers and activists to debate solutions to key challenges for democracies worldwide. By identifying and analysing experimental initiatives and practices, the Forum highlights

and encourages democracy innovations at the grassroots and their transfer on a systemic level in order to strengthen the foundations of democratic societies. The Forum thus contributes to the evolution of democracy towards more participatory and inclusive structures and institutions. The ultimate goal of the World Forum for Democracy is to enable citizens to reclaim their place in political decision-making. Description en français

Le Forum mondial de la Démocratie rassemble des réformateurs et des leaders mondiaux pour identifier des réponses démocratiques aux défis qui affectent nos sociétés aujourd'hui. Organisé par le Conseil de l'Europe, ce projet est soutenu par le gouvernement français, les collectivités locales (Ville de Strasbourg et la région Alsace). Le Forum mondial de la Démocratie est une plateforme unique qui permet aux décideurs et aux militants de débattre de solutions aux défis qui se posent à nos démocraties. En identifiant et en analysant des initiatives et pratiques expérimentales, le Forum met en avant et encourage des innovations démocratiques provenant de la base et leur transfert à un niveau systémique afin de renforcer les fondations des sociétés démocratiques. Le Forum contribue ainsi à faire évoluer la démocratie vers des structures et des institutions plus participatives et inclusives. L’objectif ultime du Forum mondial de la démocratie est de permettre aux citoyens de recouvrer leur place dans le processus de prise de décision politique.

2026 Democracy Hackathon starts tomorrow!

This year, the Democracy Hackathon takes place under the New Democratic Pact for Europe consultation process, just like the World Forum for Democracy.

This week in Strasbourg, 20 hackathon teams and participants will work on practical ideas to tackle hate speech, troll farms, privacy risks and gender hate. It will be a part of a wider conversation on participation, trust and democratic resilience.
