Europe Prize of PACE - Prix de l'Europe de l'APCE Four European awards for municipalities - Quatre distinctions destinées aux communes européennes

The Europe Prize is the highest distinction given by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) that can be bestowed on a European town for its actions in the European domain. The prize consists of a trophy, a medal, a diploma and a scholarship to be spent on a study visit within Europe for young people from the winning town. More information you can find here:

Today, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe was delighted to welcome 11 delegations in Strasbourg from German, Italian, Montenegrin and Turkish towns, which were awarded the European Diploma – the first stage of the Europe Prize – in the presence of Mr Miloš Konatar, Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on the Europe Prize, Ms Catherine Trautmann, Mayor of Strasbourg and President of the Eurométropole, and Ms Despina Chatzivassiliou, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly. The towns were recognised for their commitment to Europe, their European initiatives and acts of solidarity, particularly those aimed at young people and vulnerable groups.

The 2026 Europe Prize – the highest level of the Prize which is awarded each year by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, to the town most active in promoting the European ideal – has been awarded to Reggio Emilia in Italy ! Congratulations!

A truly European city that has been committed to Europe for many years through city networks, regular contacts with twinned cities and European and international events.
Its twinning network comprises 12 cities and seven international agreements.
In 2025, the city took part in over 47 European projects, and more than 2,000 students participated in European training programmes, Erasmus+ experiences and mobility activities.

Vinnytsia is a city of 370 000 inhabitants in the Oblast of Vinnytsia. It has formal agreements with 15 cities, including recent additions such as Karlsruhe (Germany) and Nancy (France). Vinnytsia actively participates in European events, such as Europe Day celebrations marked by the VinBookFest open-air festival in 2025 and youth sports tournaments. Several youth-focused initiatives include exchange programmes for students with partner cities like Karlsruhe and Nancy.

Mollet del Vallès is a town located in Catalonia, in north-eastern Spain, about 20 km from Barcelona. It has a population of around 50,000.
In 2025, Mollet del Vallès actively continued its longstanding exchange with twin cities, particularly Ravensburg (Germany) and Montélimar (France). Europe Day celebrations reached over 320 secondary school students and 200 primary pupils through interactive English-language sessions, educational games, and up-to-date content about EU institutions and Mollet’s European engagements.

Ostrów Wielkopolski is a city in western Poland, located in the Greater Poland region. It has approximately 70,000 inhabitants. In 2024–2025, the city significantly strengthened its European twinning network, particularly with Nordhausen and Delitzsch (Germany) and Bergerac (France). The city organises numerous European activities : Erasmus+ projects, EU Knowledge Competition, European lessons in schools and kindergartens, European Week of Sport for All and Europe Day.
