⚠️ Road closure notice: South College Street, Aberdeen

From Monday 7 September, South College Street will be closed between Riverside Roundabout and the junction with Wellington Place while we carry out essential repairs to part of the underground duct system supporting a major electricity cable replacement project.

The repairs are required after engineers identified water entering part of the duct network during the final stages of the project. The road closure is currently expected to remain in place until 18 December. However, the end date remains subject to change due to unforeseen delays or adverse weather conditions.

The project is replacing decades-old infrastructure linking Redmoss and Clayhills substations and will help maintain a secure and reliable electricity supply for Aberdeen for decades to come.

We appreciate the patience of residents, businesses and road users while this important work is completed. Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained, and diversions will be in place.

⚠ Smoke from the ongoing wildfire incident within the Cairngorms National Park is travelling over a wide area due to current weather conditions. ⚠

Residents and businesses in the east area of Aviemore, as well as across parts of Aberdeenshire - including Inverurie, Banchory and Kintore and surrounding areas - and as far as Aberdeen city, may see or smell smoke today and into the weekend.

If you are affected, keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.

The wildfire incident remains dynamic and unpredictable. Changing wind strength and direction can cause flare-ups, reignition and the spread of smoke, with conditions continuing to evolve.

Resources are currently focused on tackling a fire front that has spread into a large area of heather to the east of Ryvoan Bothy and travelling in an easterly direction. This is generating substantial volumes of smoke, reducing visibility in and around Nethy Bridge, and is visible across a wide area, including from the A9. Firefighting operations remain ongoing, supported by helicopter water-bombing and the creation of fire breaks to help contain the fire and prevent further spread.

Firefighters remain deployed to tackling the incident across a vast and complex landscape, supported by ongoing helicopter water-bombing operations. Crews, specialist wildfire resources and partner agencies continue to monitor conditions closely and work to prevent further spread.

Please continue to stay away from the affected areas in the Cairngorms National Park while firefighting operations continue.
