📣 CHALLENGE POVERTY WEEK – ASSIST HOUSING SUPPORT 📣

Grampian Housing Associations’ Housing Support Workers are here to support with issues that are affecting you and your ability to sustain your tenancy through 1 to 1 support work plans.

🗣 ASSIST Housing Support Success Story

Financial insecurity, unsuitable housing, and uncertainty about the future can have a significant impact on a person's wellbeing. When someone is struggling with their housing situation, the stress and anxiety can affect every aspect of daily life.

Recently, our Housing Support Service worked with a service user who felt unsafe in their home and was finding it difficult to navigate the housing application process due to limited digital skills and the impact of poor mental health.

Through tailored support, our Housing Support Worker:

✅ Helped them access online housing services
✅ Assisted with housing applications and bids for suitable properties
✅ Secured priority housing status based on health needs
✅ Provided ongoing emotional support and reassurance throughout the process
✅ Liaised with housing providers to help complete the move

After months of support, the service user successfully moved into a home that better met their needs, offering increased safety, outdoor space, and access to local support services.

The impact was about much more than housing. The service user reported a significant reduction in stress and anxiety and said they would have struggled to cope without the support they received.

This case demonstrates how addressing the issues that contribute to poverty, such as housing insecurity and digital exclusion, can have a positive impact on mental health. By providing practical support and removing barriers, we can help people feel more secure, empowered, and able to move forward with confidence.

💚 Safe housing, financial security, and access to support are not just poverty issues. They're mental health issues too.

Reducing poverty helps to protect and improve mental health

Mental health and poverty are closely linked. Financial pressures, debt, rising living costs, and uncertainty can all have a significant impact on wellbeing, while poor mental health can make it harder for people to access support, maintain employment, or manage their finances.

This Challenge Poverty Week, we're highlighting the importance of accessible advice and support services that help people navigate difficult times. No one should have to face financial worries alone.

Whether it's support with benefits, debt, housing, energy costs, or employability, early intervention can reduce stress, improve wellbeing, and help people regain control of their circumstances.

Together, we can challenge the stigma around both poverty and mental health, and create communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Thriving community organisations help create a Scotland free from poverty

Working together to strengthen our communities this Challenge Poverty Week

At Grampian Housing Association, community engagement is about more than listening.

It’s about getting involved, taking action and making a difference together.

Throughout our communities, our teams work alongside tenants, residents and local partners through:
🚶 Community walkabouts to listen, identify local priorities and find solutions
🧤 Litter picks helping to create cleaner, safer and more welcoming neighbourhoods
🤝 Support and signposting to help tenants access advice and services when they need them

Last year, Grampian Housing Association achieved Customer Service Excellence (CSE) accreditation following our first independent assessment.
