Aberdeen’s newest Primary 1 pupils have taken their first steps into Gaelic Medium Education at Gilcomstoun Primary School.

The pupils are joining the city’s Gaelic Medium Education provision, which is available from early learning and childcare through to secondary school.

There is now a presumption against new licenses for sexual entertainment venues in Aberdeen after a change to policy was agreed today by the City Council.

The amendment to the existing policy at Licensing Committee means a current sexual entertainment venue will likely not be replaced with a new one if it closed.

Nominations are open for people wanting to stand in the Aberdeen City Council by-election for the Midstocket/Rosemount area.

The nomination forms can be viewed at https://orlo.uk/gb7Jb Completed nomination forms must be delivered to the Returning Officer at by 4pm on Monday 7 September 2026.

The Midstocket/Rosemount by-election will be held on 8 October 2026.

Weekend night buses from are running tonight from midnight! 🌃 🚌

The five routes are paid for by Aberdeen City Council and will be operated by on Friday and Saturday nights, from 12midnight to approx 3am.
The routes cover Inverurie and Banchory, Kingswells, Bridge of Don, Cove, Kincorth, and areas and villages in between.

First Aberdeen’s single fares will apply on the service and Concessionary and Under 22’s National Entitlement Cards travel for free.
Night buses are part of the Council's commitment to the Purple Flag, a prestigious UK award for excellence in the evening and night time economy.

A reminder that the Celebrate Aberdeen parade takes place today (Saturday 29 August) - a celebration full of colour and noise that recognises the work of the third sector in Aberdeen.

A number of road closures will be in place on the parade route and surrounding streets between 10am and 1pm - we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Mel's Mile will start from 10.30am with 3 running races on the parade route.

At 11am the parade of up to 4,000 people, representing over 100 third sector organisations will start from Albyn Place and make its way onto Union Street, Union Terrace, Rosemount Viaduct, Schoolhill and Upperkirkgate before finishing on Broad Street.
