📟 Tasking - 22 July 2026 📟

Our volunteer crew were paged at 5.20pm this evening, just before the start of a routine training exercise, following reports of an overdue swimmer attempting to swim from Ynyslas to Aberdyfi before returning by train.

Aberdyfi RNLI’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat launched to begin a search, together with Borth RNLI Lifeboat Station However, while the crew were responding, the swimmer made contact with HM Coastguard to confirm they had turned back after becoming tired and were safe ashore.

With the casualty accounted for, the lifeboat was stood down at 5.40pm. As the crew were already afloat, they continued directly into their planned training exercise, making the most of the opportunity to keep their lifesaving skills honed and ensure they remain ready to answer the call when needed.

If you’re planning a long-distance swim, always consider the conditions carefully, be realistic about your ability, and always let someone know your plans and expected return time. If you get into difficulty in the water, remember to Float to Live: tilt your head back with your ears submerged, relax and try to control your breathing, use your hands to help you stay afloat, then call for help or continue your journey when you’re able.

Congratulations to our latest crew members to pass out as Safe to Go on Service! 👏🚤

Following yesterday’s exercise, we’re delighted to congratulate Gemma and Jack on successfully passing out as Safe to Go on Service lifeboat crew.

Reaching this milestone is the result of many hours of training and assessment. To become operational crew, they have completed training in:

• SAR Unit Firefighting
• Emergency and Survival
• Pyrotechnics
• Launch Procedures
• Recovery Procedures
• Lookout
• Rope Handling
• Crew Emergency Procedures (CEP)

This training ensures they have the knowledge, skills and confidence to operate safely and effectively as part of the lifeboat crew when the pager goes.

We’re also pleased to congratulate Geoff, who has successfully passed out as shore crew. Shore crew play a vital role in every launch and recovery, helping to ensure the lifeboat and crew can respond safely and efficiently.

Well done to Gemma, Jack and Geoff on this fantastic achievement, and thank you to all of the crew, trainers and assessors who supported them along the way.

📟Tasking - Saturday 27 June 2026📟

At 2.05pm yesterday, RNLI Aberdyfi's volunteer crew were tasked by HM Coastguard following reports of a man on the beach with a potentially life-threatening arterial bleed to his arm.

Our lifeboat Hugh Miles launched within minutes, and two casualty care-trained crew members went ashore to assess and treat the casualty. Thanks to the quick actions of members of the public, who had already applied pressure to the wound, our volunteer crew were able to carry out further treatment before handing over to Community First Responders, the Welsh Ambulance Service and, ultimately, the Wales Air Ambulance, who flew the casualty to hospital for further treatment.

This was a fantastic multi-agency response, with everyone working together to ensure the casualty received the best possible care. We'd also like to thank the members of the public whose swift actions before our arrival helped make a real difference.

Volunteer crew member Oli Simmons said:

'An uncommon call out for us. The gentleman had slipped when opening a beer with a knife and given himself a deep wound. Members of the public had done a great job in stemming the bleeding until we arrived. With support from our colleagues in Community First Responders, the Welsh Ambulance Paramedic and the Air Ambulance crew, we got the gentleman patched up and taken onwards to receive further treatment. A great outcome and a reminder to use the right tool for the job!'

A great time with Conwy PWC Riders while they raised funds for local charities and awareness around watercraft safety 💙🛟🧡

More than 100 members of Conwy PWC Riders took part in a charity jet ski ride from Black Rock Sands to Aberdyfi on Saturday 20 June, raising funds for local charities, including RNLI stations. Aberdyfi RNLI's B class lifeboat Hugh Miles escorted the riders into the Dyfi Estuary.

📟 Tasking - 21 June 2026 📟

We were paged at 2:57pm for immediate launch by Holyhead Coastguard to a report of an iPhone SOS activation half a mile east of Aberdyfi lifeboat station.
The volunteer crew proceeded to the location and with no sign of anyone, continued to search upstream to where another boat and paddleboarders were located. The occupants confirmed they were okay and hadn't set off an SOS alert. They did tell the crew that a crew member of another boat had lost an iPhone over the side.
The lifeboat crew headed back to the original location and met with the second boat. Having cross checked mobile numbers, Holyhead Coastguard confirmed we had the right people, who had also managed to recover the phone from the seabed.

Helm Wil Stockford said:
‘As a station we've responded to many different things over the years, but turning out to an automatic mobile phone SOS is a first for us’.

The crew returned to the station where the boat was made ready for service.

What a fantastic day on the water! 🌊

Our volunteer crew were pleased to support today’s charity jet ski ride from Black Rock Sands to Aberdyfi, escorting over 100 jet skis safely into the estuary with our B Class inshore lifeboat.

The event helped raise funds for a number of good causes, including the RNLI, while also promoting safe and responsible personal watercraft use.

🌊 🚨 Happening Today! 🚨🌊

If you’re in Aberdyfi today, make sure you head down to the beach to see the Ride Out charity jet ski flotilla arrive all the way from Black Rock Sands, escorted by our RNLI lifeboat.

With over 100 jet skis taking part, it will be an impressive sight on the water as the riders make their way into Aberdyfi, raising money for the RNLI, Mountain Rescue and other local charitable causes.

Come along, show your support, and give the riders a warm welcome as they complete this fantastic charity challenge.

🚤☀️ Cardigan Bay is busy again… and that’s exactly how we like it.

With paddleboards, kayaks, fishing boats, jet skis, swimmers, sailing boats and pleasure craft all sharing the same waters around Aberdyfi, a little patience and consideration goes a very long way.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has recently reminded all water users of the importance of operating safely and respectfully in shared spaces. In simple terms:

👀 Keep a good lookout at all times
⚓ Travel at a safe speed for the conditions
🌊 Be mindful of your wake around others
🤝 Give people space and show consideration
📻 Communicate clearly and early when manoeuvring
🐟 Watch out for fishing gear, divers and other water users

Whether you’re a seasoned skipper or trying out a paddleboard for the first time, we all have a responsibility to help keep Cardigan Bay safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Nobody wants their day on the water interrupted by an avoidable incident 😅

A bit of common sense, courtesy and patience means everyone gets home safely with happy memories of the sea.

Have fun, enjoy the sunshine, and look out for one another. 🌞🌊
