Small grants of up to £500 are available through the Community Cohesion Festive Monmouthshire Fund.

Do you have an idea for an event or activity that brings people together locally over the festive season?

We’re inviting community groups and voluntary sector organisations to apply for up to £500 for projects and activities that celebrate festive traditions, strengthen community connections, and bring people together across Monmouthshire.

If you have an idea, we'd love to hear from you. Ideas could include activities that:
• help people feel included and connected to their community
• reduce loneliness and social isolation
• create safe, welcoming spaces where people can meet and mix
• bring people together through shared interests, experiences, or values
• challenge myths and stereotypes to help build understanding and reduce tensions

Application deadline: 22 October.

Email [email protected] for an application form.

This Stoma Aware Day, we’re proud to support Colostomy UK’s campaign, helping to raise awareness and understanding of life with a stoma.

Here in Abergavenny, we’re also pleased to share that there are two stoma-friendly toilets within Abergavenny Town Hall, providing facilities designed to better meet the needs of people living with a stoma.

Small changes can make a real difference to making our town and public spaces more accessible and welcoming for everyone.

Yesterday representatives from Abergavenny Town Council attended the One Voice Wales Innovative Practice Conference at the Royal Welsh Showground.

This annual event provides town and community councils a valuable opportunity to share best practices, ideas and innovations which can help us to deliver services more creatively across our sector.

We received a presentation from Sian Gwenllian, Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning, on priorities of the community and town council sector. Other presentations covered effective use of artificial intelligence in the support of the work of local councils, the importance of play in the development of our children, and proposals on a Community Right to Buy Scheme in Wales.

Principal Officer Sandra Rosser delivered a presentation to one of the break out sessions on Engaging with younger people. This award winning initiative generated some great conversations with fellow town and community councils on how the sector can make strides to engage with younger people, and we look forward to seeing how other councils do with this modern-day mission!
