A big thank you to Longtown Mountain Rescue Team for hosting our cadets recently.

The cadets got to learn about the role of mountain rescue locally and nationally, how it works and how they should contact mountain rescue if needed.

The cadets then got to look and try some of the kit that is used, this included:
○ Use of a vacuum stretcher
○ Stretcher carry exercise
○ Tour of vehicles and kit carried inside
○ Learning about what medical equipment is carried in a casualty care bag
○ Demo of how a pulley system can help carry a stretcher using mechanical advantage

2478 had 5 cadets attend Rose Dragon this, each covering different streams and gaining new badges.

Our cadets have a had a good summer with attendance at No 1 Welsh Air Cadets annual camp at RAF Northolt, Ex Rose Dragon and more.

Aged 20+ and looking to give back to the community and help develop young people?

We are looking for more adult volunteers to join the squadron. Adult volunteers can take on two roles:

CADET FORCES ADULT VOLUNTEER (CFAV)
Deliver training, lead activities, and act as a role model for cadets. Progress through recognised leadership qualifications and take on real responsibility. You take one of 3 roles, Officer, NCO or Civilian Instructor

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO (CFAV)

Weekly parade nights (drill, music, leadership training, sports, first aid, radios & cyber ...)
Adventure training: hiking, camping, climbing
Flying and gliding experiences
Shooting, sports, and fieldcraft
Camps and overseas expeditions
Administration support
Ceremonial events (Remembrance Sunday, etc.)

WHAT YOU GET BACK (CFAV)

Opportunities to utilise existing qualifications and gain new one through RAFAC run courses. Most of these courses are nationally recognised
A reference-worthy volunteering role that stands out on a CV
Leadership and management experience
A genuinely fun, supportive team of like-minded volunteers
The chance to watch young people grow in confidence because of YOU

CIVILIAN COMMITTEE MEMBERS (CIV COM)
Looking to help out without the regular time commitments, why Become a civilian committee member?

You will be supporting the squadron with fundraising, community links, and resource management — great for local business people or parents wanting to help without weekly commitment.

WHAT WE ASK OF YOU

Minimum age 20
Enhanced DBS check (Both roles)
Basic Safeguarding and First Aid training (CFAV only)
Basic Interview (Both roles)
A regular commitment — even one evening a fortnight makes a huge difference (CFAV only)
No prior military or cadet experience required
