Join us on Saturday 17th October for our final Rail and Trail Adventure of the year, exploring the stunning mountain views over Devil’s Bridge with expert mountain leader Claire Goodman-Jones. 🚂

Your trip begins with a 12-mile heritage steam journey through the Rheidol Valley between Aberystwyth and Devil’s Bridge, departing Aberystwyth station at 10:30. Sit back as the train climbs into the Cambrian Mountains, with views of woodland, farmland and the stunning Rheidol Valley.

On arrival at Devil’s Bridge you will meet Mountain Leader Claire Goodman-Jones who will lead you on a carefully planned route, sharing stories about the local area, wildlife and history as you go. 🥾

You will need suitable walking footwear and clothing for the weather, plus water and any refreshments you require.
Walks will take approximately 3 hours.

Following the walk you will then have some leisure time to enjoy before the return train back to Aberystwyth which departs at 15:45.

Rebuilding Aberystwyth Station

This view from early 1968 illustrates the large amount of reconstruction that took place when the old disused Carmarthen standard gauge lines from platforms 1 and 2 were removed to make way for the new Vale of Rheidol station. The photograph is taken from beyond the locomotive shed, looking back towards the station, with the coaling stage in the centre. This shot was taken in April 1968 and shows the VoR track being laid with much of the standard gauge track still in situ on the coaling stage and sidings.

Your 50-minute return steam train journey takes you to Capel Bangor and back before arriving at the Engine Shed Museum, where an enchanting one-hour immersive Christmas experience awaits.

As children complete activities throughout each zone, they'll collect stamps in their Elf Passport, creating a keepsake of their festive adventure. Elf Passports and activity sheets are available in both Welsh and English, making the experience accessible for all young visitors.

The grand finale of your experience is a magical meeting with Santa Claus himself in his beautifully decorated grotto! 🎅

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Glyn Jones, a friend and regular visitor to the Vale of Rheidol. Glyn was a loyal supporter of the railway for decades. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of local bus enthusiast and dear friend of Lloyds Coaches, Glyn Jones, at the age of 91.

Glyn was a true gentleman. Over a remarkable 91 years, he witnessed extraordinary transformations across the public transport industry, carrying a wealth of history, passion, and local knowledge with him.

To many of us across Aberystwyth and Machynlleth, Glyn was a warm and familiar face. He could often be spotted out and about enjoying the buses and trains alongside his close friend—and another great friend to us all—Tony Moyes. Their shared love for the buses and railways was infectious, and seeing them out together always brought a smile to our drivers and team.

Glyn’s presence, stories, and enthusiasm will be greatly missed by everyone at Lloyds Coaches and throughout the wider transport enthusiast community.

Rest in peace, Glyn. 🚌
