A chapel with a difference!
While exploring historic chapel records we came across this fascinating OS map showing Zion Baptist Chapel, Llanwrtyd Wells. What makes it stand out? The chapel had a really unusual heptagonal plan. The site is recorded on Coflein as part of the National Monuments Record of Wales: https://zurl.co/UVAVj

The chapel has since been demolished, meaning that very few traces of the building survive today. In many cases, historic maps, photographs and archival records are all that remain to tell the story of chapels like this one.
This is exactly why the Capeli Cymru National Chapel Census is so important. By recording chapels and gathering local knowledge, we're helping to preserve the memory of places that have disappeared from the landscape but remain an important part of Wales' cultural and religious heritage.

Wrth archwilio cofnodion hanesyddol capeli, daethom ar draws y map Arolwg Ordnans hynod ddiddorol hwn sy'n dangos Capel Bedyddwyr Seion, Llanwrtyd. Beth sy'n ei wneud mor arbennig? Ers hynny mae'r capel wedi'i ddymchwel, sy'n golygu mai ychydig iawn o olion yr adeilad sydd i'w gweld heddiw. Mewn llawer o achosion, mapiau hanesyddol, ffotograffau a chofnodion archifol yw'r unig dystiolaeth sy'n weddill i adrodd hanes capeli fel hwn.
Dyna'n union pam mae Cyfrifiad Cenedlaethol Capeli Cymru mor bwysig. Trwy gofnodi capeli a chasglu gwybodaeth leol, rydym yn helpu i ddiogelu cof am leoedd sydd wedi diflannu o'r dirwedd ond sy'n dal yn rhan bwysig o dreftadaeth ddiwylliannol a chrefyddol Cymru.

Thank you to everyone who came along to the Capeli Cymru talk at the National Eisteddfod yesterday. It was wonderful to see so much interest in Wales' chapel heritage.

The Capeli Cymru National Chapel Census remains open!

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. Currently, we have received responses for around 10% of chapels we know exist in Wales, highlighted by the yellow dots on the map above. This has helped us build a clearer picture of Wales's chapel heritage.

However, we are still looking for updated information about the chapels marked in blue. Are they still functioning as places of worship? Have they closed? Or have they been adapted for other uses, such as homes, cafés, community facilities, or other types of buildings?
