The Friends of Abingdon Abbey Buildings Trust is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿 to join our small team and help put people and community at the heart of the historic Abbey Buildings.

It’s a varied, hands-on role combining community engagement with activity delivery – building relationships with local groups and schools, creating opportunities for people to get involved, and helping develop the longer-term community use of the Buildings.

𝗔 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗻 & 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀!

After a summer away, they returned to the Abbey Buildings in September – and there was plenty of change to see since their last visit in July.

The & Witney College students are working with us to photograph and film the Enhancement Project as it develops and started the new term with a tour of the site before getting back behind the cameras.

We’re really enjoying working with them and are looking forward to seeing the project through their eyes over the coming months.

A big thank you too to Group for their continued support in helping us give the students opportunities to follow the work as it progresses.

🎭 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱.

The strip out of the theatre is now complete and, while the space looks very different at the moment, exciting improvements are on the way.

The next phase includes the installation of a new floor, raked seating, and, for the first time, a modern ventilation system providing both warm and cool air throughout the year. The result will be a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for audiences and performers alike.

This work is being delivered by Savvy Group and funded through the The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with support from the 𝗢𝘅𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁.

🎭 𝗔 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.

One of the key improvements taking shape within the Lower Hall is the extension of the staging area, which will double in size as part of the enhancement project.

The larger stage will provide greater flexibility for weddings, community celebrations, performances, and popular events such as the B**r Festival, helping the venue serve even more people in the years ahead.

This work is funded through the £4 million The National Lottery Heritage Fund grant, with support from organisations including the Wolfson Foundation.
