3 things I like on the LNR this time of late summer.
- blooming purple heather.
- an abundance of blackberries
- sycamore tree helicopter seeds.

Friends of updates -
- next session
6pm, Thurs 10th Sept,
meet at bench top of Pleck Meadow.
Activity - seed spreading.
- we will plan sessions most months throughout oct-march, will be weekend mornings. Keep your eyes on the page for details. Potential activities - include litter picking, area tiding, habitat piles and bird watching (January).

Anyone is welcome if they ever fancy joining us for a session or more.

Thanks to Hyndburn Council, Peel Park and the Coppice bowling clubs. It looks like we are going to have access to store a small amount of equipment up there for practical sessions and after session brews during the winter months. Much appreciated.

A famous five featured in this balsam bash escapade as we set about delivering a knock out blow to remove balsam that had evaded us and Benjamin Hargreaves primary school at this site a few months ago. A crushing blow was landed thanks to our volunteers ready for are next battle area next year. The next planned session is on
*Thurs 10th September, 6pm till 7.30pm* . current plan is wildflower seed sowing.
P.S. if you see the balsam drying on the side of the path(like the photo), this is to stop it spreading after we have pulled and stamped on it.

Finish of the area at back end arden hall woods. Weather looks pleasant evening sunshine.
Enjoy giving a little back to your local nature reserve environment in a group setting. All welcome.

Brilliant effort from the volunteers last night. A huge area of balsam was picked and then jumped on like we were squashing sandcastles on the beach at the end of the day.
A special note for our vice chair who said we can finish it with 10 mins more (I felt like Chuckie from rugrats doubting him), but I was wrong.🙌💪
See the size of some of the balsam, if you're walking along see some of the pretty pink invader. Pull it and snap it. P.s. nice spot of an elephant hawk moth.

Weather looks once again set good for another Balsam Bash tomorrow evening.
Meet at 6.30pm at Avenue Parade gates. All are welcome. If you haven't been before, give it a try. It's therapeutic pulling balsam on a warm evening.
